New Gluten Free, Lactose Free, Easy To Digest Slimfast

I received an email from the slimfast company promoting this. It sounds great, It also could explain why optifast gives me terrible pains. I thought it was gluten free but every time I drank one, I would get sick. I gave the rest away. I haven't seen the "easy to digest" available near me yet but I'm hoping it will be here soon.

No, but I wouldn't drink that stuff. It's high in simple sugars and low in protein... pretty much the opposite of what we should be eating. If you can have whey, Designer Whey Chocolate is gluten-free and really good - no sugar, very low fat and high protein... and it tastes awesome.

No, I haven't. I am waiting for the skinny fairy to come by at night and make me thin.

I do realize that but on days when my ra is really bad, my jaw swells up and I have to drink liquids. If the designer whey comes ready made I could handle that but on bad days, I can't use my hands much. Does it come in cans or bottles?

I'm sorry, I didn't realize you weren't drinking it for nutritional reasons, but as a convenience issue. I'm not sure if it comes in cans or bottles, but I know it comes in ready-to-drink packets where you just add the packet to a bottle, add water/milk, and shake it up. Not sure if that would help your RA much.

Sorry that your RA is so bad you have to drink liquids!!! : (

I use Slimfast for convenience, when I am too stiff, too sick, or in too much of a hurry to make a meal. I haven't seen the new one yet, but I will be looking for it.

      Celiac for dummies

      I was just diagnosed at 26 after accidental finding. Any simple tips for newbies? Things a non celiac would never think of? I already went through my prescriptions and identified some medications that have gluten. Is there a beginners guide? Celiac for dummies?

      Wow! Thank you @trents I really appreciate the responses. This line of diagnosis has me questioning a lot of symptoms over the course of my life. Very validating and very much a bummer at the same time.

You might be surprised to find out how your health improves and how much better you feel once you eliminate gluten from your diet. Celiac disease is an autoimmune disorder that, when gluten is consumed, triggers an attack on the villous lining of the small bowel. This is the section of the intestines where all our nutrition is absorbed. It is made up of billions of tiny finger-like projections that create a tremendous surface area for absorbing nutrients. For the person with celiac disease, unchecked gluten consumption generates inflammation that wears down these fingers and, over time, greatly reduces the nutrient absorbing efficiency of the small bowel lining. This can generate a whole host of other nutrient deficiency related medical problems. We also now know that the autoimmune reaction to gluten is not necessarily limited to the lining of the small bowel such that celiac disease can damage other body systems and organs such as the liver and the joints and cause neurological problems.  It can take around two years for the villous lining to completely heal but most people start feeling better well before then. It's also important to realize that celiac disease can cause intolerance to some other foods whose protein structures are similar to gluten. Chief among them are dairy and oats but also eggs, corn and soy. Just keep that in mind.
