#@*(!&@#(!&@(*& Look its another horror story during with the college...this time it wasnt the freezer, it was the very filthy microwave that did it to me. because last night my stomach was hurting a little more than usual, and my "urgency" is definitely a lot worse, and i have NO appetite at all. I guess when I was warming some bread on the paper towel it must of soaked thru or something. BLAHHH.

I haven't found your thread about the freezer- how did you get glutened?

As for the microwave at college, I took to making everything on the stove. On the plus side, some of the students envied my real food, while they heated up their 5th ramen noodle dinner for the week. hahaha. :P

If the microwave was that filthy, it might not have been gluten--it very well could be food poisoning. If somebody heated, say, a bowl of meaty chili, and it splattered, and they never cleaned it up, then you ended up with their chili meat juices, which without a doubt were growing lovely bacteria.

I share a microwave at work with 92 people, and I swear I am the only one who ever bothers to clean the the darn thing.

Here is the easy way to do it: put a bowl of water and a few drops of dawn dish detergent (or your favorite) in the microwave. Nuke on high for 2-3 minutes. Then, take a couple of paper towels and wipe the crud out. Nice clean microwave!

AGAIN!? Lisa, try some waxed paper. That might work better than a paper towel,

When I use the microwave at work I use microwave-safe containers so my food stays in there and doesn't get bothered by a dirty or clean microwave. If you are haveing problems maybe stick to food like fruits or sammies not needing refridgeration so you can carry them on you and not worry about other peoples messes. When I am on campus I bring my own fruit (pre-washed at home) or buy some there and clean it in a sink. That way I don't have to worry about any issues. Good luck next time, Lisa.

Well here is a description of our 'lunch room'...its 5 tables with 4 chairs at each, 2 pop vending machine, 2 junk food vending machine, and a vending machine that has coffee hot chocolate and some other cheap liquids..theres 1 sink, and 2 old microwaves, and 1 small/beer-size fridge. So I dont have a heck of a lot of choice of where to keep my food (which i keep in the staff room, as everyone knows)... *sighs* I think im gonna just keep an empty container in the fridge all the time. Not sure if I should talk to the head guy about it or not! What do you guys think???

Or from the sides or the top of the microwave...

Wax paper is a very good idea. Also making sure the microwave is clean, as Fiddle Faddle mentioned. You would be surprised at the stuff people cook and do not clean up *gags* I always use the gladware....I always have that on hand.

I hope you are feeling better. I use the mircowave at work. I make sure the food is on or in a plate, bowl or container that will not soak through and I put a paper towel under the food container. I also always cover my food with either a lid or a paper towel. Solo makes plastic bowls that interlock so one can be used as lid. I find them with the paper plates.

You could talk to the head guy and see what he says. You are guaranteed nothing will happen if you don't. I would think the college has a cleaning service. Maybe mircowave cleaning each day could be added. Filthy microwaves are health hazard.

Yeah you'd think someone here would take the time to clean them out like every week. a lot of people just dont care and make the place so filthy. And I am someone who is completely paranoid when it comes to looking at/seeing gluten somewhere, especially when its crumbs. Like i said i think i'm just gonna keep an empty container in the fridge in the staffroom until they tell me to take it home or something...blah.. I really cant wait til U of R!

Btw, I am better/have recovered from these glutened pains, but the last 2 days i've had my 'mystery' pains SUPER bad that i've nearly had to cry in class

Just to warn you, if you leave an empty container in the fridge, it will absorb the combined odors of everything else in the fridge (yuck)...

After waisted time of new care team, yet again EXHAUSTED saw new gi today in Modesto, though all my ailments im not getting any kind of concern of me being celiac and sentive to just about everything since menopause. Dr daid why don't I go see you guys because my blood shows zero for celiac. I told him im glutenfree since 1994 by colonoscopy with biopsy positive celiac sprue by GI.Its RIDICULOUS when im bringing in material from this site of knowledge as well as the autoimmune institute, and  there's zero interest on their part.Medical IS causing me depression.Im view as a disability chaser, IM STILL RECOVERING from being a bus driver that im still healing and having more issues, now I may have multiple sclerosis or meningioma. Ive reached out, wrote letters, NOT feeling well. This is inhumane.

I was taking medicine for sibo but it was not agreeing with my stomach at all.Was on gabapentin but it amps me up.I was taking in morning because it wasn't allowing me to sleep. This has always been an issue with medicine and me.Even going to dentist, the good shot that numbs you once, I can't take because it makes my heart beat fast and I  get the shakes.I have to take the crappy stuff and get injected always more than 4 times always. Its infuriating

I showed one doctor I went to once because completely clueless of celiac disease and yes that one was connected to a well known hospital and she said oh thats just a bunch of people that think they are celiac coming together. I said um no they have doctors and knowledge behind what is being written. So bay area is Downplaying this site! SADLY

If you successfully digest gluten with enzyme supplements so it won’t give you side effects, your challenge won’t be worthwhile because the digested fragments of gluten also won’t stimulate antibody production or cause intestinal damage.
