Amy's "pasta" Sauces/ Truly Gluten-free?

Hi.

I haven't looked at the computer in a long time. Today in a daze I looked at this site again and (I don't know WHERE!) saw some things written about Amy's products not truly being gluten-free. Having recently introduced Amy's Tomato/Basil pasta sauce with seemingly no trouble I am wondering if it's just certain products that have problems or the whole shabang, as it were. I am not yet entirely symptom-free but so much better I have become a little bit (operative phrase: " a little bit...") more cavalier at trying new foods. I still avoid MOST processed things and hope this company is not an entire shipwreck. Thanks in advance for any thoughts.

I use Amy's products without issue. However, there are those that have been glutened by them. I think it will come down to how comfortable you are using their products.

I've used Newman's Own with no problem. I like the sockarooni. Double check the ingredients, they can change. I've never had a problem with any pasta sauce or salsa that I've bought (I never buy ones with gluten ingredients, of course).

I eat Amy's tomato/basil pasta sauce with no problems.

I haven't tried their pasta sauce but I have had problems with many of their other products. I am very sensitive and I love their food but it always makes me sick. There are plenty of threads about other people that do fine with their products and people who won't touch anything they make. So, it may depend how sensitive you are if you are able to tolerate their products or not. If you are still having some symptoms then I wouldn't think it is a good idea to introduce somethng that may have cc issues.

There are plenty of other pasta sauces that you can have without a problem, so I would probably stick with something safer, but that is just my opinion.

Thank you all for your posts. Cassidy- if you read this again would you mind naming the other safe brands you feel good about? I wasn't sure about Newman's, Carla, maybe I will try that now. After a long, good stretch (a few weeks- I guess not that long) I just got HORRIBLY glutened last night. Unfortunately, the only different thing was Perdue whole chicken. I guess I just can't eat chicken- I know it's supposed to be safe. The battle goes on...

I can't eat tomato sauce anymore, that was a tough one to give up. I used to eat Emeril's and Classico. I don't know if all the flavors are gluten-free, but if you search here for those, you can easily find out. Or, you can do a post about safe pasta sauce and plenty of people will tell you what they use.

As far as the chicken goes, I don't have a problem with regular chicken but I know some people have gotten "special" chicken that they can tolerate. I think that maybe they find stuff that isn't grain fed or has no antibiotics or something like that. If you really like chicken and want to keep eating it, you might ask other people what they eat as far as chicken goes.

      Not necessarily. The "Gluten Free" label means not more than 20ppm of gluten in the product which is often not enough for super sensitive celiacs. You would need to be looking for "Certified Gluten Free" (GFCO endorsed) which means no more than 10ppm of gluten. Having said that, "Gluten Free" doesn't mean that there will necessarily be more gluten than "Certified...

The GI doc may look at all the evidence, including the biopsy report, and conclude you don't need anything else to reach a dx of celiac disease and so, there would be no need for a gluten challenge. I wish I had known of this at the time of her diagnosis, life would have been much easier.  I hope you are able to figure out.

I almost said no because she made it in her kitchen but I thought it would be ok.  Next day and for a few after his behavior is awful. Hitting, rude, disrespectful. Mainly he kept saying his legs were shaking. Is this a gluten exposure symptom that anyone else gets? Also the bad behavior?

      I think it is wise to seek a second opinion from a GI doc and to go on a gluten free diet in the meantime. But if the GI doc does want to do more testing, you can worry about the gluten challenge at that time. But between now and the time of the appointment, if your symptoms improve on a gluten free diet, that is more evidence. Just keep in mind that if a gluten challenge is called for, the bare minimum challenge length is two weeks of the daily consumption of at least 10g of gluten, which is about the amount found in 4-6 slices of wheat bread. But, I would count on giving it four weeks to be sure.
