Pocono Buckwheat- Anyone Tried It?

Hi again.

Has anyone tried Pocono (brand) Kasha buckwheat? It claims it's gluten-free; their web-site claims dedicated lines and all but I'm always nervous about eating a new thing. I'd just like to add another grain besides rice to my diet. Any advice is greatly appreciated. I have the "organic roasted buckwheat groats- cracked granulation".

Thank you!

lisa

I eat their buckwheat all the time. My favorite is their cream of buckwheat, it tastes very close to cream of wheat and is pretty high in protein. They are a good company with a great product line.

Ravenwoodglass,

Thank you so much! When I get over this last glutening, I'm going to try it!

If you tummy is still a bit off and you need some comfort food the cereal with some cinnamon can be nourishing and easy to digest, sometimes that's all I can eat after a day spent in the throne room. If all you have is the kasha with the larger grains a couple seconds whir in the blender or a food processer would give you the consistency for the cereal. I hope you feel better soon.

Thank you, Ravenwoodglass. It's nice to hear a few words of encouragement as I am having my first "sustained" glutening, (meaning I can't seem to get it to stop even as I eliminate any and every suspect thing) in awhile. This is the sixth day of unabating symptoms and even worsening symptoms and I'm really fed up. Sometimes I think it'd be easier just to remove my stupid intestines altogether, but I'll try not to dwell on that. Thank you for your help!

After that length of time unless you are sure you are reglutening yourself you may want to call the doctor and submit some stool samples. It is possible you may have some form of food poisoning. You haven't been eating any of those recalled Pnut butters have you? I managed with a case of salmonella once for almost 3 weeks cause I thought it was my usual stuff just a worse case. Always better to be safe than sorry if you can. Meanwhile you may want to do a modified Brat diet that I call the BRA, bananas, white UNFORTIFIED plain rice and applesauce with no additives or homemade. I really hope you feel better soon.

Ravenwoodglass,

Thank you again. I'm pretty sure this is gluten. I've also had salmonella and it was NO picnic. Unlike many with gluten issues, I get severe bloat with a lot of pain, CONSTIPATION alternating (SOMETIMES) with D, low back pain, much intestinal pain, red, burning eyes and just generally feel like I can't leave the the house 'cause I don't know when I WILL need to run to the bathroom. The pain is also worse at night so sleeping doesn't happen. I'm sure you're delighted to hear all this... as I drone on..... I also am suspicious that my fluctuating hormonal levels are exacerbating symptoms as I'm 49 and things are changing. But, you're right, if I still feel lousy tomorrow I may cave and call my doctor. Sigh...

Thank you so much again,

I get alot of inflammation and joint, muscle and oddly enough tooth pain when I get glutened so I can really sympathize. The only thing that helps is oddly enough St. Josephs baby asprin. I don't know why such a simple med would do so much, perhaps it acts on the inflammation. I don't know if it would help you but figured I would mention it. I tried it once in desperation and it seems to work for me. It's all I take now. I hope you can figure out what is getting you. It can be a real search sometimes. It took me 2 years to realize that my can opener was getting me.

Ravenwoodglass,

Holy mackerel! Yes, the old CAN opener- YIKES! Thank you- I am going to buy some St. Joseph's tomorrow. You have been very kind. Yes, I'm hoping to get to the bottom of this soon!

Thank you!

Do you or anyone know alot about ibuprofen  I wasn't sure if I was eating too much apple sauce.   Something is making my pain so much worse  I'm referring to the intense pins and needles in my feet and lower legs.  Jaw actually has tardive dystonia and muscle spasms throughout my back Almost like an opposite effect that a pain reliever would do. I'm fairly new to this. Whatever is going on seems to be worsening  Do people get a withdrawal effect from gluten?  It's extremely painful 😖  I'll post that question or research on the site  Thank you everyone for responding

I think I found a huge culprit for severe reactions to create worsening of my c symptoms. Do people with celiac have sensitivity and /or have opposite reaction to certain medications Where can I find a list ?  I'm new here I'm.wondering why I am getting worse when I take certain medicine...the burning feet.  Rebound muscle pain so intense  How many people get opposite effects or have a horrible attack after these meds

Does anyone know if that includes scrambled eggs and healthy smart butter (,gluten free) I add a very tiny amount of margarine less than a teaspoon.  I did no't have any bread    It just seems like no matter what I eat my stomach and nerves over fire and here comes a host of horrible symptoms. My lower abdomen feels horrible, my right leg thigh muscle.. very odd. Jaw pain. Burning feet , joint pain , you name it  The anxiety just creeps up into brain fog. I don't think I could explain this to anyone who is unfamiliar.  Also,  I most likely will not remember posting this until I check it.  This is highly unusual for me because I have an excellent memory.  One weekend before I knew anything about celiac I lost an entire weekend from severe brain fog, confusion, pain, etc.  I honestly thought I was losing my mind. When I think back I recall eating a lot of PBJ sandwiches and turkey sandwiches.  Once again did not know about gluten.  I was just too sick to cook. Do people fast during attacks ?? It seems horrible to keep going through this. I hope I'm not causing my own problems... I wonder if I should fast because I'm not eating gluten .  Chicken ,  scrambled eggs no milk , canned carrots,  gluten free low sugar low fat Greek yogurt which I already posted about 😞 Any suggestions I am open... I am bedridden when this happens to me.  Thank you Celiac community. 🙏🏻❤️

Yeah, that sounds super familiar. When inflammation levels are high — especially at the start of changing your diet — the body often develops a fructose and lactose intolerance. Unfortunately, the only thing that really helps is cutting out anything that isn’t lactose-free or that contains sugar. So basically, stick to meat, veggies, fish…
