Preterm Labor And Celiac Disease?

Hi,

I'm brand new here - my doctor is running some gliandin blood tests for suspected gluten sensitivity/Celiac disease due to several symptoms I have had (stomach pains, gas, bloating, loose BM with undigested food, headaches, etc.)

My question is: Can untreated celiac disease cause preterm labor? In 2004, I was pregnant with my son, who I carried to 37 weeks successfully. However, during that pregnancy I struggled with preterm labor from 27 weeks on using terbutaline and magnesim sulfate to stop contractions. I then miscarried my baby at 17 weeks last April when I went into labor and my water broke. Right after I delivered him, I was in the hospital with terrible diarrhea and dehydration for several days - with a very elevated white blood cell count, etc. They used antibiotics to control the issues, but I have had digestive problems and stomach pains ever since. I have since also had an early miscarriage (at 5 weeks) this past November.

Does this sound familiar to anyone else?

It is possible. My first daughter was born fine but at the low end of normal for birth wieght. My second duaghter was born at 29 weeks. I have had one miscarriage after that. I was not gluten free untill 6 months after my second baby was born. I also had big problems producing enough breast milk. My family (the side carrying celiac) has had a number of pre-term and still births. From my understanding if your body isn't getting enough nutrients for the baby due to celiac not allowing you to absorb them then nature takes its course and trys to terminate the pregnancy.

As far as I know and I have made severalonline searches, celiac disease disease has not been recognized as a cause of migraines or any eye problems. What I wrote must have been confusing.

Interesting, when I suffered for a few months with ectopics I noticed that carbohydrates would cause indigestion and bloating in my stomach, then that would lead to my heart skipping beats, and I could feel it in my throat, it was very unsettling.  My last serious bout of this was after eating a Muller Rice Pudding for breakfast.   I happened to be wearing a 48 hour halter at the time and cardiology picked it up, but they weren't worried about what they saw. There was some British doctor who'd made some videos on the Vagus nerve that I remember watching at the time which made sense of what I was experiencing, there did seem to be some sort of connection.

I asked my cardiologist about stopping vitamins.  He said his tests account for all detectable vitamins from sources other than food.  I only need to stop them for a couple of days.  He has me keep records of meds and vitamins I've ingested over the past 10 days and prior and he does his calculations.

Reply to treats I try and eat to bring up the glucose. Sometime I get up 3 times a night and eat something. I don't think food is the issue. A lot of the food they say should help doesn't.  Many mornings my level is 59 and I feel sick, sometimes for hours. It has been recommended I go to an Endocrinologist.
