Hi - Does anyone know- is BEAR NAKED GRANOLA gluten free? Thanks very much!

No. Oats are generally considered unsafe due to cross contamination. I would not eat them. There are new oat products coming out that are going to be marketed towards the celiac community. They will be grown, harvested and packed in a gluten-free environment.

On their website it does say that the fruit and nut kind is gluten- free but it doesn't say it's certified. Check bearnaked.com -I am still undecided about whether it's safe. The thing is, my daughter (5 yrs) loves it so I want it to work. I wanted to know if anyone had researched this particular brand because it's the only granola she likes. She has trouble with getting constipated and granola seems to help but I wan to keep her off gluten.

Any other insights are welcomed. Thanks again!

The constipation can be cured naturally with Chlorella tablets. They are in your health food stores. If you look around, there are natural ways of curing every problem. Give her half the dose of Chlorella. Spirulina is also good. Also, more water. Get her a fabulous cup and one of those pump water containers. Give her permission to pump a cup of water out whenever she wants and she will be drinking more than you hoped.

I LOVE Bakery on Main granola! I also can't get my husband to stop eating it (it is pretty pricey). I used to eat a lot of Bear Naked granola before my diagnosis - this is a good substitute.

That granola still has oats; the gluten free label is misleading in this case and I would absolutely not trust it. It may well be the fiber that is making a difference, so hot cereals with plenty of fiber (adding flax meal can help with that, and adding jam can help with taste if she wants sweet stuff), or muffins with flax, rice bran, and high fiber gluten-free flours.

In addition, I just checked their website for this information and they say it contains crisp rice which has malt and is thus it is not gluten-free.

1. Where did you see "crisp rice" on the site? Which site?

2. "Crisp rice" is a possible source of gluten via malt flavor, but is not always.
