Marshmellows And Chocolate

Hi all,

With all the reading I have done and all the products that I have managed to find I still don't know if Marshmellows are gluten free or chocolate. I managed to find a bag of chocolate chips that said may contain traces of nuts, milk or soy so I imagine that if they listed those ingredients as a "MAY CONTAIN" then they would have listed wheat as well - to cross check this I just looked for something else the company made that would have wheat in it and it had wheat listed as a "May Contain" item. So I am pretty certain that the chocolate chips are all right but what should I be looking for on Marshmellows and just regular chocolate bars. You need to understand that when I have a hard core sugar craving I like to split a marshmellow in half and put peanut butter and chocolate on it.

If anyone knows about marshmellows please let me know. The bag doesn't say, but what makes them not stick together? If nobody knows maybe I will write to the companies and ask.

Thanks all,

Kelly

:D Yes, marshmellows generally are gluten free. But never put anything in your mouth without reading the labels. Enjoy!

You just made my day I have a camping size bag out in the kitchen but didn't want to open them until I was absolutely sure. Have been gluten free for 2 weeks now and the only symptoms I still have are the headaches - allergy related and the bloated belly.

Not really caring about the bloated belly right now. WANT MARSHMELLOWS and peanut butter. Does anyone else really CRAVE food? I always do. Usually it's veggies but the last 2 weeks it's peanut butter and marshmellows.

The only one I've bought since going gluten free is Kraft since they are meticulous about labelling. I have not had issues with them.

:) I'm psyched too - I just found a puffed rice cereal that is CHEAP and says glutenfree right on it! Hoping to try making rice crispy treats from it. i know it'll be a little different...but close is better than not at all! (and I don't want to pay $4 for a box of cereal just for marshmallow treats!).

Hi there,

I have the easiest and YUMMIEST recipe for homemade, fluffy marshmallows (and if *I* say they're easy, believe me, they are, as I HATE to cook!), pm me if you would like the recipe! :)

Hi there,

I have the easiest and YUMMIEST recipe for homemade, fluffy marshmallows (and if *I* say they're easy, believe me, they are, as I HATE to cook!), pm me if you would like the recipe! :)

I am going to make Trix cereal bars with gobs of marshmellow. If they don't work then the Dora the explorer cereal will do and I will add one cup of peanut butter, a wack load of marshmellows and chocolate drizzle after they are done.

Who said this disease sucks, I am having a blast making treats and for once in my life I don't feel guilty making them because I am doing it to save my health. Isn't that irony, I spent my whole teen years watching all the fats, calories, sugars, starches. Now in my 30's I am eating all the stuff I avoided just to stay sain and feel like a normal person.

OH and just so everyone knows the recipe for peanut butter brownies is the BEST. CAUTION: Eat on an empty stomach with several napkins at hand. I am ashamed to admit I ate have of a batch for breakfast with a pot of coffee one morning. Gave me a whole new look at my workout routine. How do you burn off about 3000 in an hour???

Oh well you only live once, might as well enjoy the small pleasure, next time however it will be in a smaller dose.

Have a good weekend everyone and happy mother's day to all the Mom's out there.

My 5yo was diagnosed with celiac last year by being tested after his sister was diagnosed. We are very strict on the gluten-free diet, but unsure what his reactions are as he was diagnosed without many symptoms other than low ferritin.  He had a school party where his teacher made gluten-free gingerbread men. I almost said no because she made it in her kitchen but I thought it would be ok.  Next day and for a few after his behavior is awful. Hitting, rude, disrespectful. Mainly he kept saying his legs were shaking. Is this a gluten exposure symptom that anyone else gets? Also the bad behavior?

Not necessarily. The "Gluten Free" label means not more than 20ppm of gluten in the product which is often not enough for super sensitive celiacs. You would need to be looking for "Certified Gluten Free" (GFCO endorsed) which means no more than 10ppm of gluten. Having said that, "Gluten Free" doesn't mean that there will necessarily be more gluten than "Certified Gluten" in any given batch run. It just means there could be.

I think it is wise to seek a second opinion from a GI doc and to go on a gluten free diet in the meantime. The GI doc may look at all the evidence, including the biopsy report, and conclude you don't need anything else to reach a dx of celiac disease and so, there would be no need for a gluten challenge. But if the GI doc does want to do more testing, you can worry about the gluten challenge at that time. But between now and the time of the appointment, if your symptoms improve on a gluten free diet, that is more evidence. Just keep in mind that if a gluten challenge is called for, the bare minimum challenge length is two weeks of the daily consumption of at least 10g of gluten, which is about the amount found in 4-6 slices of wheat bread. But, I would count on giving it four weeks to be sure.

Are Bobresmill gluten free oats ok for sensitive celiacs?

thank you both for the insights. i agree, im going to back off on dairy and try sucraid. thanks for the tip about protein powder, i will look for whey protein powder/drinks!   i don’t understand why my doctor refused to order it either. so i’ve decided i’m not going to her again, and i’m going to get a second opinion with a GI recommended to me by someone with celiac. unfortunately my first appointment isn’t until February 17th. do you think i should go gluten free now or wait until after i meet with the new doctor? i’m torn about what i should do, i dont know if she is going to want to repeat the endoscopy, and i know ill have to be eating gluten to have a positive biopsy. i could always do the gluten challenge on the other hand if she does want to repeat the biopsy.    thanks again, i appreciate the support here. i’ve learned a lot from these boards. i dont know anyone in real life with celiac.
