I am going to to try and not sound too mean about this post but I get tired of someone saying in here a product is glueten free and when you go and buy it or to buy it , it says right in the ingrediants that it is made with flour ( wheat flour) I am talking about Mannies tortias someone posted in here that they were glueten free ( well they are not glueten free!!!) Now in all fairness maybe they make different types maybe a wheat flour one and a corn flour one if that is the case I stand corrected and will accept blame for my mistake but please dont post that a product is if your not sure or it isnt.

Yes, we all must be careful about posting incorrect information because the health of others depend on it. It's alway important to know that companies can change their ingrediences. So reading labels is the key to success.

I think it's best to use this site as a general guide to remember that technically, anybody can post anything here. It's best to personally verify information you read on this forum (like you did, by reading the ingredients) before taking anything as fact and comprimising your health because of something you read on a message board :)

Is this possibly a company that makes corn AND flour (wheat) tortillas? I did a search of the board using your spelling of Mannies and have come up with NO posts on them with the exception of yours?!?! If you can provide the correct spelling...possibly we can do a search of their website to do some checking into it. It is always good to check ingredient lists for yourself. Mistakes happen. Only YOU are responsible for your health.

If Manny's is the spelling for the ones that AL is speaking of......then the corn tortillas ARE on the list of gluten free products from hormel. I am guessing you (AL) picked up the flour tortillas by mistake...when the poster was most likely referring to corn tortillas.

I found a post from a while back that was asking about Manny's Corn Tortillas.

It's also on Hormel's gluten-free list - listed as Manny's Corn Tortillas.

I wasn't able to find anything from anyone who mentioned them without it being a discussion about corn tortillas in the first place.

I think it's just frustrating in the beginning to have to remember all this stuff, read labels, memorize which manufacturers will fully label and which will hide gluten.

The most important thing is that you DID read the label. Because even on items that have been gluten-free for forever can and do all of a sudden have gluten in them. (Beware any label that says "New and Improved.)

This whole thing can be a real PITA sometimes.

When you do find something that has been stated as being gluten-free and you find that it isn't, please do post a topic warning other people. Because that kind of stuff sneaks up on everyone.

This is why when I find something I have not yet seen in here I post the entire email, letter or article I have, so that each of you have the same information that I do..... I will never edit anything I post into the forum with the exception of removing my personal information for obvious reasons using the {snip} I so love.

I do not expect anyone to take my word as gold even after I have actually figured out what I am doing just as I will not take anyones here, it is up to each of us to verify for ourselves the gluten-free'ness of any product

      if you have already learned that Gluten is the cause of your symptoms, of course there is no need to add it back into your diet— your decision could save you a lot of needless suffering. One thing to consider is that if you do have celiac disease, your first- degree relatives may also need to get screened for it, because, like diabetes the disease is genetic, although many of its triggers seem to be environmental factors. You may want to consider getting a genetic test for celiac disease, so you can at least warn your relatives if it turns out that you do carry a celiac gene.

      Thanks everyone. I've decided to do a gluten challenge (4 slices of bread a day for 3 months) and then do a full gluten panel of all the tests that can be done, just to rule it in or out for sure. I think otherwise psychologically it will keep bothering me

      Thanks Scott. Those articles are really interesting. I’m cutting out gluten for 6 weeks but honestly I’m not sure I even want to reintroduce it! I ate at a restaurant for the first time on Wednesday and then Thursday was really uncomfortable and had a few trips to the loo.. wonder if there was some cross contamination 🤷‍♀️ if that’s how my body reacts after not eating it for 3 weeks I’m not sure it’s worth reintroducing it and re testing for celiac! It might have been a coincidence I realise that I’m not going to feel better all of a sudden and my gut is probably still trying to heal. Thanks for your supportive message!

      Reference range 0.00 to 10.00 means that within that range is normal, so not celiac. There are other antibodies that can be present in celiac disease and they don’t all have to be positive to have celiac.  I’m sure someone else will post a link to an article describing them! Plus, if you are IgA deficient the celiac IgA tests won’t be accurate.
