I've been working on my Photobucket album at: Open Original Shared Link

(You have to click on the sub album name to see the pictures in that album)

I've added some pictures, plus created multiple sub albums: Flowers, Wildlife, Sunsets/Landscapes, Night Photos, People. I'd be interested in which category you like the best, which picture in that category you like the most and why.

Just in case there are any bored people out there. j

Most of them are Oregon...a few Alaska, Hawaii and Mexico pics thrown in there.

Hard to take a bad picture of emma;)

I'd say I like the macros, and unique angles the most. The wildlife ones are... too close to ordinary. But those are *tough* to get anything else.

I'd encourage you to toy with not centering your subjects. It struck me that the pictures all were similar in some way, and one of those ways is that the subject is all center in the frame, or very nearly. That 'standard' gets... dull, and many photo instructors encourage their students from getting away from it. A lot of those pictures would gain a lot from a cropping that moves them away from being 50/50 weighted horizontally and vertically.

Right...you have to understand that what you are seeing are huge 3888 x 2592 images that

I've quickly scaled down to 640x480 to place on the web. These images could be cropped

numerous ways for effect... The crispness of these images also suffers a bit during the

resizing process. Having said that, yes, not centering is something I could be better at, but

I always know, when I'm taking an image, that I can crop it later if I like. I keep my

best images in "RAW" format so that I don't risk any degradation from processing them multiple times...

I know. :) And I only say it as constructive criticism, since I know that you're very good and can get even better. Composition is always a challenge, and cropping can take ages - at least it's faster on the computer than in the darkroom. (I can't tell you how many hours I spent in the darkroom trying to crop images to the proper composition.) I know the rub - you don't want to alter what you captured, but you still have to present your best foot forward.

Once you go to put them up on the web, for your electronic portfolio, as it were, that 640x480 is all that's going to matter, and there's plenty of room for cropping from a 7mp pic down to that. :) Just modify from copies, rather than the original, and you'll always have your pristine copy to work from, and you can crop to your heart's content. :)

Heh... the fun one is having two or three competing (in your mind) compositions for the same subject and really not being able to decide between them. Sigh.

My current 'exercise' is better identifying unusual and interesting subjects - not just the generic every day things, which sometimes just means finding dramatically different angles. It's fun, but gets dirty when you lie down in the middle of the street on your stomach. :P

I am intresting in the nature and the beach with white sand. Especially to frame them, the colors are so vivid. My wife and kids love to see these kind of pictures around the house.

My wife says that I keep taking pictures of the same stuff. I tell her, take me somewhere new and I'll take pictures of it:)

new link? that one appears to be broken. (perhaps photobucket has a limit on how many pictures you can see without registering?)

Oops, I posted a faulty link..my bad...Hopefully this will work.

I use a Canon SD630 PowerShot when I go running. It's got a decent macro function. Not a substitute for a DSLR and Macro lens...but you can carry it running:)

Excellent, I like it. What is the resolution or the magnification of your camera.

Thank you. Most of these are shot with a point and shoot Canon SD400. It's alright, but mostly it's small enough for hiking. :) The rest are shot with a Nikon D70 DSLR. Both are 5mp cameras. (It's not the size of the sensor; it's how you use it. )

Really, it's a matter of practice and instruction on the subject. And lots and lots of practice. In the 11 months, I have taken nearly 5000 pictures. I started doing photography nearly 20 years ago. (Yes, before I was 10.) These days, I'd say about 15-20% of what I take, and it's only that high because half the time I'm documenting some event that's occurring. :)

sparkles Contributor

just curious, JerryK, did you take this pic of yourself?

JerryK Community Regular

I think I took it with my a small point and shoot on "timer mode" at the beach after running.

Honestly can't remember I have so many photo's.

tarnalberry Community Regular

You inspired me to bring my camera on a walk to the store (to get shampoo!) and take pictures. Turned my 15 minute walk into a ~70 minute walk. :)

(For reference, this is 36 out of the 140 pictures I took. Some whole subject groups didn't come out at all - especially the bees. :( And a nearly great one of a yellow jacket.)

Okay, I've really got to get into the digital age. I love taking photos, but my Canon is an SLR film camera. You guys are having too much fun.

I had a very rough month after diagnosis. No exaggeration, lost so much inflammatory weight, I looked like a bag of bones, underneath i had been literally starving to death. I did start feeling noticeably better after a month of very strict control of my kitchen and home. What are you eating for breakfast and lunch? I ignored my doc and ate oats, yes they were gluten free, but some brands are at the higher end of gluten free. Lots of celics can eat Bob's Red Mill gluten-free oats, but not me. I can now eat them, but they have to be grown and processed according to the "purity protocol" methods. I mail order them, Montana Gluten-Free brand. A food and symptoms and activities log can be helpful in tracking down issues. You might be totally aware, but I have to mention about the risk of airborne gluten. As the doc that diagnosed me warned . . Remember eyes, ears, nose, and mouth all lead to your stomach and intestines.  Are you getting any cross contamination? Airborne gluten? Any pets eating gluten (they eat it, lick themselves, you pet them...)? Any house remodeling? We live in an older home, always fixing something. I've gotten glutened from the dust from cutting into plaster walls, possibly also plywood (glues). The suggestions by many here on vitamin supplements also really helped me. I had some lingering allergies and asthma, which are now 99% gone. I was taking Albuterol inhaler every hour just to breathe, but thiamine in form of benfotiamine kicked that down to 1-2 times a day within a few days of starting it. Also, since cutting out inflammatory seed oils (canola, sunflower, grapeseed, etc) and cooking with real olive oil, avocado oil, ghee, and coconut oil, I have noticed even greater improvement overall and haven't used the inhaler in months! It takes time to weed out everything in your life that contains gluten, and it takes awhile to heal and rebuild your health. At first it's mentally exhausting, overwhelming, even obsessive, but it gets better and second nature.

Hi,  I care for my seven year old daughter with Celiac. After watching her for months, I have figured out that she has problem with two kinds of fats- animal fat and cooking oils. It basically makes her intestine sore enough that she feels spasms when she is upset. It only happens on days when she has eaten more fat than her usual every day diet. (Her usual diet has chia seeds, flaxseeds, and avocado/ pumpkin seeds for fat and an occasional chicken breast.) I stopped using cooking oils last year, and when I reintroduced eggs and dairy, both of which I had held off for a few months thinking it was an issue of the protein like some Celiac patients habe mentioned to be the case, she has reacted in the same fashion as she does with excess fats. So now I wonder if her reaction to dairy and eggs is not really because of protein but fat.   I don't really have a question, just wondering if anyone finds this familiar and if it gets better with time.  Thank you.

Hello, My name is Chanda and you are not the only one that gose through the same things. I have found that what's easiest for me is finding a few meals each week that last. I have such severe reactions to gluten that it shuts my entire body down. I struggle everyday with i can't eat enough it feels like, when I eat more I lose more weight. Make sure that you look at medication, vitamins and shampoo and conditioner also. They have different things that are less expensive at Walmart.

Thank you so much! I saw some tips around the forum to make a food diary and now that I know that the community also struggles with corn, egg and soy, the puzzle pieces came together! Just yesterday I tried eating eggs and yes, he’s guilty and charged. Those there are my 3 combo nausea troublemakers. I’m going to adjust my diet ☺️ Also thank you for the information about MCAS! I’m from South America and little it’s talked about it in here. It’s honestly such a game changer now for treatment and recovery. I know I’m free from SIBO and Candida since I’ve been tested for it, but I’m still going to make a endoscopy to test for H. Pylori and Eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE). Thank you again!! Have a blessed weekend 🤍

Yes, I, too, have osteoporosis from years of malabsorption, too.  Thiamine and magnesium are what keep the calcium in place in the bones.  If one is low in magnesium, boron, selenium, zinc, copper, and other trace minerals, ones bone heath can suffer.  We need more than just calcium and Vitamin D for strong bones.  Riboflavin B 2, Folate B 9 and Pyridoxine B 6 also contribute to bone formation and strength.   Have you had your thyroid checked?  The thyroid is important to bone health as well.  The thyroid uses lots of thiamine, so a poorly functioning thyroid will affect bone heath.
