Feeling Terribly Sick And Depressed

Although I feel better knowing that a gluten - free diet does cause withdrawal symptoms (I'm on my 11th day and also avoding dairy, eggs, soy and tomato) I still feel very overwhelmed and depressed. Does anyone have the problem of weight gain and swelling all over and when you're better it's like you're body is a different person again? I also have nausea, heartburn, stomach pains and watery diarreha (sorry) but it changes all of the time. Any advice?

Thanks

Sorry to hear you're feeling so crummy. I haven't had the weight gain issue, maybe you are retaining water? You may also have other issues going on, we tend to ascribe everthing thing to diet when we have these problems :(

what types of things are you eating? are you making your own food? i had the opposite effect of the diet- once i started the weight started falling off really fast. but i was also not eating as much as i should. right now your should be focusing on fresh fruits and veggies and bland meals that are easy to digest (chicken, turkey, fish etc.). are you eating enough fiber? you can try steaming your veggies to make them easier to digest. your body could just be cleaning itself out but if the d continues i'd call your GI doc. also, stay away from all of the gluten-free products for now (pastas, baked goods, micro meals etc.). i'm at three months gluten-free and still can only handle the goodies and snacks about once a week.

hope you feel better soon!

I'm eating brown rice, rice crackers, all beef weiners, all which came from Choices Market and are gluten free on the label, I'm also avoiding other things for which I am waiting for test results back from Enterolab people. I've been sick for 25 years and have always gotten bloated, swelling and weight gain, I eat almost nothing as it is so this is hard but I am determined to get better now. When the bloating goes down I'm so thin, it's weird. I'm trying to eat a variety of foods and I'm thinking maybe that I'm just continuing to go through the withdrawal phase of it. All of you have been so nice, thanks for answering my questions. This has been so helpful and I hope one day I can maybe answer a question for someone else.

I'm not sure of how to use this e-mail, how do you use the quote or reply, I put some things twice

Thiamine interacts with all the other B vitamins.  Thiamine and B 6 make a very important enzyme together. With more thiamine and other vitamins available from the supplements your body is absorbing the ones you need more of.  The body can control which vitamins to absorb or not.  You're absorbing more and it's being transported through the blood.   It's common to have both a Thiamine and a Pyridoxine deficiency.  Keep taking the B Complex. This is why it's best to stop taking supplements for six to eight weeks before testing vitamin levels.

Yes I took a supplement that had B6 in it, low dosage though. I've stopped taking that. B1 doesn't affect other B vitamin levels?

Have you tried lip balm made from tallow?  It's been used for thousands of years and works better than those with waxes. I prefer Vintage Traditions brand tallow balm products.

Are you taking a B 6 supplement or a supplement containing B 6 like a B Complex?  Do you have pins and needles in your toes?   Don't worry about the thiamine being high.  The blood is a transport system that carries thiamine to the cells so they can store it.  It's fine.

Quick question, had some blood tests done again and once again my zinc was too low but now ofcourse my B1 was too high and so was my B6. The doc said to  immediately  stop all supplements that contain B6. Can using thiamine raise the levels of B6 too?
