Back From Gi Appt.

So -- back from my GI appt. I went through a bunch of questions and an exam -- the doc came back and basically said he thought I had "IBS" -- which is what I figured I would get (he read it from my primary doc records) -- He was going to do a colonoscopy, blood test (which I asked which ones and he said TtG and EmA -- which I was glad to hear since my primary just ran the Gliadin IgA and IgG which came back negative) and also an x-ray of my small intestine. I asked if he was going to do an endoscopy w/ biopsy (which is what I wanted) and he was leaning towards just x-raying the small intestine. So -- long story short -- I decided to go ahead and show him my Enterolab results and BINGO -- he changed his whole thinking -- ditched the other tests (for now) and scheduled me for the endoscopy/biopsy. If not for Enterolab, I probably would've never gotten the endoscopy procedure scheduled! I am sooooo happy I did the fecal testing -- if anything, it aided in the doctors willingness to test further for Celiac!

Thought I would share! Thanks for reading! :)

HURRAY for another open minded doc!! 3 years ago my PC, who had misdiagnosed me with IBS for 10 years, readily accepted my Enterolab results after I showed those and explained that a gluten, dairy and soy free diet had decreased my symptoms dramatically. This year I brought my PC my results from my ELISA test for additional allergies. She added all 5 of intolerance/allergies to my records. She also encouraged me to keep seeing my naturopath who has been treating all my gastrointestinal problems. Fortunately my HMO 'options' plan reimburses me for visits, blood tests and prescribed meds (herbal) from my naturopath.

I'm amazed. I'm on my sixth GI and I have yet to find one who's open-minded enough to accept lab results they didn't personally order.

We do not hear of it much on here, because a lot of people are not posting but the doctors are now starting to use Enterolab...

I strongly recommend 2 dedicated gluten free (gluten-free) restaurants in my area (East Bay of San Francisco Bay Area) (2025) -- Life is Sweet Bakery and Café in Danville. I've been a few times with friends and tried multiple entrees and salads. All very good and worth having again. I've also tried a number of their bakery goods. All extremely good (not just "good for gluten-free"). https://lifeissweetbakeryandcafe.com/ -- Kitara Kitchen in Albany (they have additional locations). I've been once and had the "Buritto Bowl". Six individual items plus a sauce. Outstanding. Not just "for gluten-free", but outstanding in its own right. Vibrant flavors, great textures. I can't wait to go back. https://www.kitava.com/location/kitava-albany/

I'm 67 and have been celiac for 17yrs. I had cataract surgery and they put a gluten lens in my eye. Through a lot of research, I found out about MMA acrylic...it contains gluten. It took 6 months for me to find a DR that would remove it and replace it with a gluten-free lens . I have lost some vision in that eye because of it . I also go to a prosthodontist instead of a regular dentist because they are specialized. He has made me a night guard and a few retainers with no issues... where my regular dentist didn't care. I have really bad reactions to gluten and I'm extremely sensitive, even to CC. I have done so much research on gluten-free issues because of these Drs that just don't care. Gluten is in almost everything shampoo, lotion, food, spices, acrylic, medication even communion wafers! All of my Drs know and believe me I remind them often.... welcome to my world!

If this applies geographically, in the U.K., physicians will often declare a diagnosis of celiac disease based on the TTG-IGA antibody blood test alone if the score is 10x normal or greater, which your score is. There is very little chance the endoscopy/biopsy will contradict the antibody blood test.

TTG IgA reference range 0.0 to 14.9 KU/L

What was the reference range for that test? Each lab uses different reference ranges so a raw score like that makes it difficult to comment on. But it looks like a rather large number.
