I requested a blood test for Celiac disease, and my doctor called and told me that the results were"very convincing" and I should get on the diet asap. I want to be sure before I cut out all of those wonderful foods, but I'm having a hard time reading my results and finding information online to help. Does anyone have any knowledge and can offer their advice?

Results:

H. pylori Ab (IgG0 Screen: Negative

Gliadin Peptide Ab IgA: 230

Gliadin Peptide Ab IgG: 102

TTG Ab, IgA: 24.5 AU

Thanks!

~Jenna

jenna,

Can you post the reference ranges, to help you interpret?

jennavive00 Explorer

Results:

H. pylori Ab (IgG0 Screen: Negative

no range

Gliadin Peptide Ab IgA: 230

19 or less - Negative

20-30 - Weak Pos.

31+ - Pos.

Gliadin Peptide Ab IgG: 102

19 or less - Negative

20-30 - Weak Pos.

31+ - Pos.

TTG Ab, IgA: 24.5 AU

7.0 or greater, positive

I see that they are all positive except the first one, but how high do the number need to be to have a 100% diagnosis? I read somewhere where someone said something about the TTG number being 25 or higher...So does that mean that you can test positive for TTG but not have Celiac's? I am confused!

These are strong positive results. Welcome to the family. Read as much here as you can and ask any questions you need to. Boy do I wish my blood tests had looked like yours, it would have saved me years of pain, hopelessness and permanent disability. It will seem hard at first, and it does take some getting used to but it is going to be well worth it in the end.

Jenna, you definately have celiac. I would think that your doctor would want to schedule you for an endoscopy to see the extent of the damage in your small intestines at this point, but not all feel it is necessary. (The TTG # usually reflects the amount of damage that has occured, and any positive # is indicative of damage to your villi)

The H Pylori is not part of the celiac screen and is a test they do now to check for ulcers, which can have the same symptoms as celiac in many cases. They were probably just ruling it out when they ran the celiac screen. The H pylori usually responds well to antibiotics, but in your case, a gluten free diet is definately needed.

Many times they also will check for Lyme disease which also mimicks celiac and can co-exist.

Thanks everyone! I appreciate the help, and it looks like I'll have more questions to come... :)

This treatment looks promising. Its aim is to provoke immune tolerance of gluten, possibly curing the disease. It passed the phase 2 trial with flying colours, and I came across a post on Reddit by one of the study volunteers. Apparently, the results were good enough that the company is applying for fast track approval.  Anokion Announces Positive Symptom Data from its Phase 2 Trial Evaluating KAN-101 for the Treatment of Celiac Disease https://www.reddit.com/r/Celiac/comments/1krx2wh/kan_101_trial_put_on_hold/

Hi everyone  This has been a crazy year so far... How many people actually get entire sensory overload from gluten or something similar ?  My jaw is going nuts ..and that nerve is affecting my upper back and so on ...  Bones even hurt.  Brain fog. Etc  I had eggs seemed fine.   Then my aid cooked a chicken stir fry in the microwave because my food order shorted a couple key items .   I was so hungry but I noticed light breading and some ingredients with SOY !!! Why are we suffering with soy ? This triggered a sensitivity to bananas and gluten-free yogurt it seems like it's a cycle that it goes on.  The tiniest amount of something gets me I'm guessing the tiny bit of breading that I took one tiny nibble of ...yikes ..im cringing from it .. Feels like my stomach is going to explode yet still very hungry 😔  How long does this last?! Thank you so much

I have had orthodontic work done. The 3M invisalign material was no problem. BUT my retainers are another matter. They seemed okay for a few months. Now, however, they cause a burning sensation on my tongue, gums and insides of my lips. The burning sensation is now spreading to my throat. I notice it when I breathe. This is annoying and interferes with my enjoyment of eating. I am visiting with my provider tomorrow. We'll see where this goes from here.
