Are Swanson chicken and beef broths ok? I couldn't find any info on their website so I thought I would ask here.

Thanks,

Jerry

The Swanson broths are NOT OK. I checked with them a while ago. Health Valley sells organic chicken, beef, vegie broths that if you buy them in the cans are OK, but for some reason the waxed cardboard containers have gluten (made in different plants, they told me) Also Herb Ox boullion cubes are OK.

Imagine's broths are ok. (Do check on the soups that have soy sauce in them, though - the labels are quite clear.)

i have heard by numerous people that swansons was not gluten-free. i recvd a letter form campbells that states certain swansons are gluten-free. i have not bought it bc of the high amount of people that say they are not gluten-free. whats the deal with it, so confusing

Here's the deal: only certain SIZES of Swanson are gluten-free. Which makes me wonder about thier TRUE GFitey :-) You have to read the lables. Some don't list wheat, others do...sigh...I stick with Herb Ox Bouillion myself.

Campbell says some Swansons are OK. If you have a Kroger somebody just posted that Kroger broths are gluten-free. I did not check this myself.

I'm so glad I read this post! :)

I bought a can of Swanson's broth the day after I was diagnosed. (Luckily, it is still in the cabnit). I read on one gluten-free list that it was gluten-free, but now that I'm learning a little more, I'll go home and make sure the kind I bought was the gluten-free kind...I've been busy this past weekend donating all of my Glutened can food and boxed food to charity. Hopefully, someone without gluten intolerance will enjoy it all! ;)

Thanks again! -Julie

ARGGGGGGG  I have been eating it.. but youre right, the cardboard box has gluten, its the can, certain size that does not. HOW STUPID IS THIS!!! I am very limited here... I live in rural Iowa.. Swanson and store brands are it unless I go to Des Moines which is over an hour an half away. DANG IT..

You might consider making your own broth the next time you make a chicken and freeze it. It tastes better too!

The Remarkable Brand Chicken Broths are gluten-free. They are the brands for Randell's, Safeway, and Tom Thumb. They just updated their gluten-free list two week ago which would be the middle of October 2004. The rep said all of their chicken broths are currently gluten-free.

Traci,

The good news is that you can easily make your own broth by using Herb Ox Bouillion cubes...says Gluten Free right on the canister!!!!

They may want to also eliminate other possible causes for your symptoms/issues and are doing additional tests.  Here is info about blood tests for celiac disease--if positive an endoscopy where biopsies of your intestinal villi are taken to confirm is the typical follow up.

In the Europe the new protocol for making a celiac disease diagnosis in children is if their tTg-IgA (tissue transglutaminase IgA) levels are 10 times or above the positive level for celiac disease--and you are above that level. According to the latest research, if the blood test results are at certain high levels that range between 5-10 times the reference range for a positive celiac disease diagnosis, it may not be necessary to confirm the results using an endoscopy/biopsy: Blood Test Alone Can Diagnose Celiac Disease in Most Children and Adults TGA-IgA at or Above Five Times Normal Limit in Kids Indicates Celiac Disease in Nearly All Cases No More Biopsies to Diagnose Celiac Disease in Children! May I ask why you've had so many past tTg-IgA tests done, and many of them seem to have been done 3 times during short time intervals?

@JettaGirl, "Coeliac" is the British spelling of "celiac". Same disease.

This may sound ridiculous but is this supposed to say Celiacs? I looked up Coeliacs because you never know, there’s a lot of diseases related to a disease that they come up with similar names for. It’s probably meant to say Celiacs but I just wanted to confirm.

I was told it was to see how much damage has been caused. But just told CT with contrast not any other name for it.
