Test Results

After repeatedly being led to this forum while trying to do online research about why I have felt so crappy for so long, I told my doctor (actually, she is a P.A.) that I wanted to have "the complete celiac panel" done. That was on Wednesday. When I called her office on Friday, they still, "didn't have the results." CAN ANYONE TELL ME HOW LONG IT SHOULD TAKE TO PROCESS THESE TESTS?

I'm worried that my doctor has them, but doesn't know how to interpret them...she didn't know the first thing about this condition, and even less about how to test for it. Can't I just have someone who knows what they should be looking for interpret them? I FEEL LIKE I'M GETTING SICKER BY THE SECOND!

If they have to send them out which they mostly have to it takes about 7-14 days. Did she say if she has to send them out or not.

She did senud them out, but to a lab in the area. Normally, when they send my bloodwork there, I have the results the next day.

the celiac panel does take longer then most blood work. So try not to worry to much. I know much easier said then done, I will give her to at least this coming friday. or call her on monday and ask how long til the results will be in.

Eat as much gluten as you can handle lol. You can read as much on here as you can handle, so you are not overwhelmed when the test come in. And remember just in case your test comes back negative, dont take that as true, ask for an endoscope to be safe.

It took 2 wks for mine to come in. Then they only got part of them in and told me it was all normal. So I thought I was safe, until they called a few days later and said the rest of the results were in, and I had Celiac. I was in shock.

Give it about 1-2 wks and then start bugging them. You also have a right to get a copy of them, then you can put the posts on here and someone can interpret them for you!

My blood tests for h.pylori and celiac took about 2 weeks. I had blood drawn at a lab, and the technician said 3 tests would be done there, and two tests would be sent out. I received a letter from the doctor's office saying all tests were negative....but the acutal test result figures were not included in the letter. The negative results shocked me....I've been lactose intolerant for 30 years, and out of the blue became very, very ill this spring.....bloating,gas,nausea,diarrhea,constipation,gut rumbling, abdominal pain/soreness 24/7. I also started to have stinging pains that lasted about 1 second in my abdomen and arms and legs. That progressed to tingling sensation in my arms, back and legs. I was scheduled for a colonoscopy but cancelled because I had no insurance. The fact that I had 3 pain free days in a row led me to believe it was a food problem. I stopped drinking lactaid milk, stopped eating lactose free ice cream, and got slightly better, but was still sick. I purchased several cans of Ensure, and after drinking lactose free Ensure got sicker. That tipped me off.

Did you know that several name brand lactase pills have wheat in them?

I learned of EnteroLab from this website, and since Celiac is an intestinal problem, the logical place to test would be a stool test. I had the tests done, and 3 weeks later my suspicions were confirmed......Celiac,gluten,and casein(cows milk) tests were positive.

Be sure to get the figures from your test and post them here. Now I'm wondering if my blood tests were mis-read. It will cost me $28 for my medical records, so for now I will skip asking for the results.

I'm now gluten, lactose and dairy free. It's tough, but there are many people who have more food problems than me, so I feel fortunate. The diet is very expensive, and I'm fortunate to be able to afford the ingredients and have the time to cook....I'm retired. My mom is 94 and is in assisted living....the residents there with special food needs are ignored and are being served the same food as everyone else. Several residents have been hospitalized because they have been served food they are allergic to.There should be a law against this. I wonder how my special food needs are going to be met when I am older. I just had to turn down a 15 day Hawaiian cruise because my food needs cannot be met. I told my husband we need to win the lottery so we can purchase our own ship......and everyone on this forum will be invited to join us :D

When I had my Shingles attack in 2019 my vitamin D was at 49 ng/ml.  Doctor gave me an antiviral shot and 2 tubes of lidocaine. Sufficient intake of vitamin D and the antiviral essential mineral Zinc can help reduce risk of viral infections.   I've been taking Zinc Glyconate lozenges since 2004 for airborne viruses. I have not had a cold since, even while friends and family were dropping like flies. Evidence supporting the use of: Zinc For the health condition: Shingles

Thank you for your thoughtful contribution, @Tazfromoz. I live in the UK and the National Health Service funds free vaccines for people deemed to be at heightened risk.  I was pleasantly surprised to discover that as a coeliac in my 50s I was eligible for this vaccine, and didn't think twice when it was offered to me.  Soon after diagnosis I suffered mystery symptoms of burning nerve pain, following two separate dermatomes, and one GP said he felt that I had contracted shingles without the rash aka zoster sine herpete.  Of course, without the rash, it's a difficult diagnosis to prove, but looking back I think he was completely spot on.  It was miserable and lasted about a year, which I gather is quite typical. For UK coeliacs reading this, it is worth having a conversation with your GP if you haven't been vaccinated against shingles yet, if you are immunosuppressed or over 50. I have just googled this quickly - it is a helpful summary which I unashamedly took from AI, short for time as I am this morning!   My apologies. In the UK, coeliac patients aren't automatically eligible for the shingles jab unless they're severely immunosuppressed or over the general age for vaccination (currently 50+) but Coeliac UK recommends discussing the vaccine with a GP due to potential splenic dysfunction, which can increase risk, even if not routine for all coeliacs. Eligibility hinges on specific criteria like weakened immunity (chemo, certain meds) or age, with the non-live Shingrix vaccine offered in two doses to those deemed high-risk, often starting from age 18 for the immunocompromised.

My understanding, and ex I erience is that we coeliacs are likely to suffer more extreme reactions from viruses. Eg we are more likely to be hospitalised with influenza. So, sadly, your shingles may be worse because you are coeliac. So sorry you had to go through this. My mother endured shingles multiple times. She was undiagnosed with coeliac disease until she was 65. Me at 45. I've had the new long lasting vaccine. It knocked me around badly, but worth it to avoid shingles.

Hi all,  Looking for some advice. I started having some symptoms this past summer like night sweats and waking at 4 am and felt quite achy in my joints. I was training heavily for cycling for a few weeks prior to the onset of these symptoms starting. I have had low Ferratin for about 4 years (started at 6) and usually sits around 24 give or take. I was doing some research and questioned either or not I might have celiac disease (since I didn’t have any gastric symptoms really). My family doctor ran blood screening for celiac. And my results came back: Tissue Transglutaminase Ab IgA HI 66.6 U/mL Immunoglobulin IgA 1.73 g/ My doctor then diagnosed me with celiac and I have now been gluten free for 3 months. In this time I no longer get night sweats my joint pain is gone and I’m still having trouble sleeping but could very much be from anxiety. I was since referred to an endoscopy clinic to get a colonoscopy and they said I should be getting a biopsy done to confirm celiac. In this case I have to return to eating gluten for 4-6 weeks before the procedure. Just wanted some advice on this. I seem to be getting different answers from my family physician and from the GI doctor for a diagnosis.    Thanks,

Cold/flu or gluten poisoning? Hello. I've had another similar episode. I find it very difficult to differentiate between the symptoms of a cold or flu and those caused by gluten poisoning. In fact, I don't know if my current worsening is due to having eaten something that disagreed with me or if the cold I have has caused my body, which is hypersensitive, to produce symptoms similar to those of gluten poisoning.
