Had The Colonoscopy Yesterday

I had my first colonoscopy yesterday. My GI doc wanted to see if there was anything else going on other than celiac disease since I am not improving on the gluten free diet. I may have something in addition to celiac disease. I hope not though!

The colonoscopy was very painful and uncomfortable even though I was all drugged up (I had a sedative, a painkiller, and a drug to help me forget). However, I am still in a lot of pain, it hurts to breath deeply/walk/move. It is a bearable pain just extremely uncomfortable. It feels like my entire colon/large intestine is badly bruised or something. I also feel nauseated.

I know some of you have had colonoscopies and I was just wondering if this is a normal reaction and if anyone else has experienced these symptoms?

Thanks

Yes, one often does feel a bit out of it for a day or two after a colonoscopy. I've had one and my girlfriend has had two. I certainly felt a bit bruised inside. I hope you figure out what's going on!

Hi Medaka,

I am glad you got the colonoscopy over with. I was a bit sore for a few days afterwards also. The dr. said that I would be since he took numerous biopsies from various areas. Do you know if your doctor is checking for collagenous colitis? That's what they found I have and that's why my diarrhea continued even though I was thoroughly gluten-free.

Also, if I remember correctly, you also have a problem with energy like I do. I have been investigating hemp hearts. They sound quite promising....

Have a great day!

Thanks so much for your replies. I feel better knowing that it's somewhat normal to feel pain for awhile after the test.

My doctor didn't specifically say what he was looking for because I guess the problem could be a number of things. My doctor told one of the nurses that my colon looked ok with no obvious problems (I'm assuming that means it's less likely to be chron's/ulcerative colitis/polyps/diverticulitis, which is great B) ). He took biopsy's during the colonoscopy and I will have to wait awhile for the results. Other than collagenous colitis, I'm not sure what else they may find in the biopsy's.

I'm not exactly sure what hemp hearts are? I'm assuming they help with energy? That would be wonderful! I need energy!

Thanks again! :)

Not to sound discouraging, but I remembered nothing at all about my colonscopy and had no residual pain at all. My doctor said my experience was the norm, and most people I've heard talk about this said the same.

Here is a link regarding the hemp hearts....

Hemp oil might be easier to find though..... I believe that has the same benefits.... Still looking into it though....

Have a great day!

Hi there! I just had my colonoscopy last Tuesday. I was put out for it though. (Thank God) I had sharp stomach pains for about two days and a sore throat. I'm thankful its over!

I was out like a light during my Colon/Endoscopy(sp?) and can't remember a thing.

The prep was a bit painful from the amount of bathroom trips

I was a little tender for a few days after but it cleared up after that.

I would call my doc if I felt extreme pain afterwards!

Thanks everyone :)

I guess I was the small percent of people that get to feel the entire process, pain and all. The pain meds didn't work too well! I am feeling a lot better today, a little discomfort but nothing too bad. It sort of feels like I did 200 sit-ups. You know that sore muscle feeling.

Thanks for the links Karen, I'll look into that!

;) I, thank goodness, did not have any discomfort after either the colonoscopy or the endoscopy. I think if you're not feeling well SOON, I would call the doctor. I was also put out for both and the only "pain" I had was the MANY trips to the bathroom.

Feel better soon!

Linda :)

Wow, sorry to hear about all those symptoms. I was out like a light during my coloscopy and felt nothing after-but my doc did say to call if I experienced those symptoms or go to the hospital if I couldn't contact him.

Mine was only 2 weeks ago and I have felt weird pains in my intestines, I think from all the biospies.

Mine was a rather uncomfortable experience as I constantly felt like I was gagging even with a sedative and an anti-gag reflex drug...def out of it for a day or so and did feel somewhat sore inside...not pleasant!!!

Apparently I cried out during the colonoscopy. The doctor said

everytime he advanced the tube I would cry. I was sedated and don't

remember too much. He said he never had anyone react like

that. My husband said that I told him, "i told you I was sick."

I had no further pain afterwards, just felt out of it. They found

one small benign polyp and hemmorrhoids. ;)

After waisted time of new care team, yet again EXHAUSTED saw new gi today in Modesto, though all my ailments im not getting any kind of concern of me being celiac and sentive to just about everything since menopause. Dr daid why don't I go see you guys because my blood shows zero for celiac. I told him im glutenfree since 1994 by colonoscopy with biopsy positive celiac sprue by GI.Its RIDICULOUS when im bringing in material from this site of knowledge as well as the autoimmune institute, and  there's zero interest on their part.Medical IS causing me depression.Im view as a disability chaser, IM STILL RECOVERING from being a bus driver that im still healing and having more issues, now I may have multiple sclerosis or meningioma. Ive reached out, wrote letters, NOT feeling well. This is inhumane.

I was taking medicine for sibo but it was not agreeing with my stomach at all.Was on gabapentin but it amps me up.I was taking in morning because it wasn't allowing me to sleep. This has always been an issue with medicine and me.Even going to dentist, the good shot that numbs you once, I can't take because it makes my heart beat fast and I  get the shakes.I have to take the crappy stuff and get injected always more than 4 times always. Its infuriating

I showed one doctor I went to once because completely clueless of celiac disease and yes that one was connected to a well known hospital and she said oh thats just a bunch of people that think they are celiac coming together. I said um no they have doctors and knowledge behind what is being written. So bay area is Downplaying this site! SADLY

If you successfully digest gluten with enzyme supplements so it won’t give you side effects, your challenge won’t be worthwhile because the digested fragments of gluten also won’t stimulate antibody production or cause intestinal damage.
