Is There Gluten In Latex Paint? Please Help!

I have been remodeling my house and have painted some of the bedrooms off and on, and each time I paint a room I get DH as though I had been glutened. Does anyone know if there is some kind of wheat/gluten binder in latex paint?

I was told by Mayo Clinic that I have the Double DQ8 gene, so I am suseptible to even "airborne gluten" due to be extremely sensitive, but I didn't realize interior house paint was not safe.

Can anyone shed any light on this for me? Do they make gluten free latex paint?

Thank you!

I don't know about latex paint, but I have heard people talk here about drywall dust.

Can't verify this, but it has raised concerns.

I've never heard of gluten in paint. There is no gluten in drywall itself (it is gypsum and paper). However, drying agents for the joint compound can contain: "plaster of Paris, calcium carbonate, gypsum, crystallized silicon dioxide (quartz), Portland cement, perlite, lime, hydroxy ethyl ether of cellulose, polyvinyl alcohol, starch, wood fiber, potassium naphthalene sulfon, aluminum sulfate, sodium citrate, ammonium tartrate, hydrolyzed protein, monosodium phosphate, sodium naphthalene sulfonate, potassium sulfate and various trace materials, or mixtures thereof."Open Original Shared Link (I happened to research this once before for someone who was remodeling and feeling glutened.)

If you aren't sanding down drywall before you paint, though, this isn't the problem.

You may be sensitive to another ingredient in the paint. Have you tried using a mask when you do the work?

It could be used as a thickening agent. The NIH website has a list of nonfood gluten containing items. It is by no means a complete list but if you do a search with the name of the paint you might get your answer. If you google NIH and gluten you might even go right to the page.

Meanwhile get yourself some gloves, I use non powdered medical quality at about $6 a box of 50 at the drug store and use them when doing anything that gets 'stuff' on your hands. I find they are thick enough so I can take them off and just leave them like on top of the furniture polish can. Unless they get wet they work for multiple uses.

Could it be a latex allergy? If so, don't use latex gloves!

You should be fine.  You may start feeling better within a few days.  Someone who is very low in thiamine may notice improvement within hours.   Did you get the NeuroMag  or another magnesium supplement?

Yes Bobs redmill cgf oatmeal I started when I became gluten-free. So taking all 3 with breakfast should work? Will I notice any reactions getting used to these or should I be fine. Thanks

Hello, @pilber309, welcome to the forum! Are you currently consuming dairy?   You mentioned something about lots of yogurt and cheese, but did you cut it out or are you eating lots of it?   Could you clarify please? Some people with Celiac react to casein, the protein in dairy the same as to gluten with antibodies and villi damage.

You may want to skip the oatmeal.  I believe you're trialing a gluten free diet while waiting for an appointment with your doctor in the new year and doing a gluten challenge then.  Some people with Celiac disease react to the protein in oats called avenin the same as to gluten.  Cross contamination between oats and gluten containing grains is possible.  Are you consuming certified gluten free oats?   I would hate for you to have a reaction to the oats and blame it on the vitamins. Yes, it will be fine to take them all together.  I take mine all together, B Complex, Benfotiamine and TTFD Thiamine with breakfast. If you're really anxious about it, just take the B Complex and Benfotiamine at breakfast and the Thiamax at lunch.  You won't have to take a second B Complex with the Thiamax.

So I purchased the Life Extension Benfotiamine with Thiamine along with the Thiamax. I will take along with my Super B Complexes. I stopped taking the multi vitamins. Should I take all 3 vitamins/supplements together with my morning oatmeal breakfast? Do you think I will experience any bad symptoms when taking them.
