I'm curious if there is anyone in the area or frequents St. Augustine. I'm road-tripping down there to visit over the New Year and wanted to know how easy it is to access gluten free foods in stores and restaurants I could safely eat at. I did a search for St. Augustine but the "St." part wouldn't go through and regular "Augustine" didn't turn anything up so hopefully this isn't a double post.

I am a frequent traveler to St. Augustine. While I have only been on the gluten-free diet for 6 months, my most recent visit to St. Augustine was gluten-free.

With respect to stores, I discovered that Diane's Natural Foods Store located at 240 State Rd 312 (corner of Route 1) had a very good selection of gluten-free foods. In terms of restaurants, the Columbia Restaurant located in downtown St. Augustine at 98 St. George Street has a gluten-free menu posted on its website: Open Original Shared Link

Items such as Spanish black bean soup, chicken and yellow rice, roast pork, shrimp criollo, paellas, lamb ribs, shrimp ajillo (garlic), snapper, filet mignon, flan, etc. are just a few of the items the Columbia Restaurant lists as being gluten-free. (They also have a terrific sangria - which is naturally gluten-free!)

Le Pavilion Restaurant (European cuisine) is located down the street from the Castillo San Marco at 45 San Marco Avenue. Although the do not have a gluten-free menu, I found the wait staff to be very knowledgeable and they indicated that they frequently received gluten-free requests.

Good luck!

I have gone to Harry Seafood and to Columbia Restaurant. Panama Hattie

I'm very confused... My blood test came out negative, I checked all antibodies. I suppose my Total IgA levels are normal (132 mg/dl), so the test should be reliable. Still, I'm not relieved as I can't tolerate even a single biscuit. I need to talk to my doctor about whether a duodenal biopsy is necessary. But it is really possible to have intestinal damage despite having a seronegative results? I have really strong symptoms, and I don't want to keep skipping university lectures or being bedridden at home.

They may want to also eliminate other possible causes for your symptoms/issues and are doing additional tests.  Here is info about blood tests for celiac disease--if positive an endoscopy where biopsies of your intestinal villi are taken to confirm is the typical follow up.

In the Europe the new protocol for making a celiac disease diagnosis in children is if their tTg-IgA (tissue transglutaminase IgA) levels are 10 times or above the positive level for celiac disease--and you are above that level. According to the latest research, if the blood test results are at certain high levels that range between 5-10 times the reference range for a positive celiac disease diagnosis, it may not be necessary to confirm the results using an endoscopy/biopsy: Blood Test Alone Can Diagnose Celiac Disease in Most Children and Adults TGA-IgA at or Above Five Times Normal Limit in Kids Indicates Celiac Disease in Nearly All Cases No More Biopsies to Diagnose Celiac Disease in Children! May I ask why you've had so many past tTg-IgA tests done, and many of them seem to have been done 3 times during short time intervals?

@JettaGirl, "Coeliac" is the British spelling of "celiac". Same disease.

This may sound ridiculous but is this supposed to say Celiacs? I looked up Coeliacs because you never know, there’s a lot of diseases related to a disease that they come up with similar names for. It’s probably meant to say Celiacs but I just wanted to confirm.
