There are THOUSANDS of us who have been through or are going through what you are going through!!

It gets much better, and SO much easier! Hang in there, and feel free to ask as many questions as you like! We all did when we first arrived here!

I've been here nearly 2 years. There are people here who were diagnosed a decade or two ago, who know an enormous amount, and people who had symptoms for several decades, but their idiot doctors had no clue about celiac, so those people suffered a lot of unnecessary and sometimes permanent damage from continuing to eat gluten because nobody told them it was a possible problem for them.

There are recipes galore for just about anything gluten-free you'd ever want--and the homemade stuff tastes way, way better than anything store-bought. You might want to go very very light on the gluten-free breads, cookies, muffins, etc, or even wait on trying them until you've been gluten-free for a couple of months. If you eat them before your gut heals, you might get a tummy ache.

Hang in there!

Hi, k-kitkat. Glad you found the board. I have posted some support group locator links below. Maybe there is one in your area. It is great to have gluten-free friends here in cyberspace, but it is also nice to know some people in person. Hope we can all help each other out on this gluten-free journey.

I'm the only one in my family that has it too, so i'm in the same boat as you! I've had doctors tell me all kinds of things that they thought could be the cause of all my illnesses, and i finally got an answer about 6 months ago. It's gotten easier every day not eating gluten, and just the fact that i'm feeling better really makes it worth it! We all have to start somewhere right?

k-kitkat Rookie

Yes i guess we do and you are all right it dose get eaiser

Thanks :D

I totally understand what you mean! I was recently diagnosed and it can be really hard but it will get so much easier and your friends and family can be so supportive of you and they can make things so much easier!

Don't feel alone, were here with you.

Look for different celiac gatherings.

I went to a gluten free convention awhile ago in like LA in Southern California and they had a teen meeting where I met other teens with the same allergies.

Don't look at it as a bad thing. You'll meet people, whom you might not of ever met before.

Try new foods.

It's like a game to me for some reason.

What's good whats bad.

Is there anyone at my hightschool with the same allergy.

Don't think your alone.

I mean, I'm here.

That's one person.

Welcome to the forum, @yellowstone! The most common ones seem to be dairy (casein), oats, eggs, soy and corn. "Formed" meat products (because of the "meat glue" used to hold their shape) is a problem for some. But it can be almost anything on an individual basis as your sensitivity to rice proves, since rice is uncommonly a "cross reactor" for celiacs. Some celiacs seem to not do well with any cereal grains.

What foods can trigger a response in people with gluten sensitivity? I've read that there are foods that, although they don't contain gluten, can cause problems for people with gluten sensitivity because they contain proteins similar to gluten that trigger a response in the body. I've seen that other cereals are included: corn, rice... also chicken, casein. I would like to know what other foods can cause this reaction, and if you have more information on the subject, I would like to know about it. Right now, I react very badly to rice and corn. Thank you.
