Sublingual B12 For Kids

Is there such a thing as sublingual B12 for kids? I don't want to OD her on vitamins but it definitely seems like she's lacking.

She takes a multivitamin plus calcium every day and eats a pretty well-rounded gluten-free diet. Probably more cookies than needed, but she really enjoys healthy foods and isn't overweight so I don't worry about that part too much.

Just wanting some parents input on the vitamins they give their Celiac kids and any related advice.

Thanks!

We use Perque activated B-12 guard. It's not specifically for kids, but my DD's developmental pediatrician recommended it and she loves it (me too). It's got a really nice grape-ish flavor.

Awesome. Thanks for the referral.

Did you know if your daughter was deficient? How was she tested for vitamin deficiencies? I'm hesitant to give her a vitamin if I don't know for sure she needs it. My reasoning behind it is to see if I can help with some of the mental focus/ADD-like stuff that hasn't seemed to clear since going gluten-free (and we're very strict, no chance of CC) and we've gone dairy-lite.

She was quite deficient, and the ped (an excellent, open-minded doc) said it helps with focus and attention. My understanding is, any excess is excreted through urine, so there's no risk of overdosing.

We each take three 2,000 mcg lozenges a day. I notice when I miss more than one day of it -- I'm less energetic and less focused.

I'd definitely give it a try!

Excellent! I'll pick some up today! It probably wouldn't hurt for me to take it too.

Yes, being off gluten for 3 months would likely yield negative results. To get accurate testing redone you would need to restart gluten consumption for several weeks (the "gluten challenge") to the tune of at least 10g of gluten daily (about the amount found in 4-6 slices of wheat bread).

That is one of the tests covered in the article I linked you above.

Antibodies to Deamidated gliadin peptides.  It is another celiac antibody test. The main test is the one you had, TTG,  But a full panel will also include DGP IgA and IgG.  I was positive on all of them!

I had been off of gluten for 3 months due to food testing came back that shows gluten intolerance. I had asked my health care provider that I wanted to be tested for celiac before stopping gluten. Once they actually listed it shows my immunoglobulin A was really elevated and on the AB, IGA part showed <1.0. Would this be a false negative given I had not gluten in months? I’m very frustrated that the the test was not done while eating gluten.

@RMJ what is the DPG test? I think my doctor never had me do that
