Pregnant And Accidentally Had Gluten

Hi,

I am 9 weeks pregnant and I accidentally had gluten today. I am wondering if any of you have done this and have gone on to have a normal pregnancy. I've already had 2 ultrasounds with a healthy heartbeat and growing baby. I just hope I didn't mess anything up by not paying attention to my food. That's what I get for trying to eat out...especially with the pregnancy cravings.

Thanks for your help.

I was nine weeks pregnant when I got glutened, and I came on here to find out the same thing. From what I found, everyone was fine. I was sure that I had just killed the baby. I was SO sick. Im now almost 15 weeks pregnant with a healthy baby. Good luck!

Getting glutened once in a while is unfortunately inevitable. You really can't worry about that. Just be as careful as possible without getting paranoid.

I am sure the baby will be just fine.

Please don't worry about an accidental glutening--there are many of us who were undiagnosed at the time we were pregnant, and had healthy babies. You're way ahead of the game already being gluten-free!

Just do the best you can, relax and enjoy this special time :)

Thank you so much for all your help. I know that the first trimester is so important and I've read so many horror stories about gluten and miscarriages that I think I just made myself paranoid. Sometimes I think all the information on the internet is more hurtful than helpful!! That plus all the hormonal changes right now just freaked me out. Thanks again for all your answers and I am sure I will be back for more questions since I don't know anyone who has Celiac disease and been pregnant. This forum has been so informative. :)

I was undiagnosed through 3 pregnancies and I now have 3 healthy children. :)

I think you're going to be just fine. Make sure you are staying hydrated though! Sometimes a little watered down gatorade or even some pedialyte is a good idea if you think you're getting dehydrated during pregnancy.

Three healthy pregnancies and babies while undiagnosed here, too!

Take care of you and your little one. I second the drinking lots of fluids. It helps with almost all of the pregnancy complaints.

This treatment looks promising. Its aim is to provoke immune tolerance of gluten, possibly curing the disease. It passed the phase 2 trial with flying colours, and I came across a post on Reddit by one of the study volunteers. Apparently, the results were good enough that the company is applying for fast track approval.  Anokion Announces Positive Symptom Data from its Phase 2 Trial Evaluating KAN-101 for the Treatment of Celiac Disease https://www.reddit.com/r/Celiac/comments/1krx2wh/kan_101_trial_put_on_hold/

BTW, we've done other articles on this topic that I wanted to share here (not to condone smoking!):

Hi everyone  This has been a crazy year so far... How many people actually get entire sensory overload from gluten or something similar ?  My jaw is going nuts ..and that nerve is affecting my upper back and so on ...  Bones even hurt.  Brain fog. Etc  I had eggs seemed fine.   Then my aid cooked a chicken stir fry in the microwave because my food order shorted a couple key items .   I was so hungry but I noticed light breading and some ingredients with SOY !!! Why are we suffering with soy ? This triggered a sensitivity to bananas and gluten-free yogurt it seems like it's a cycle that it goes on.  The tiniest amount of something gets me I'm guessing the tiny bit of breading that I took one tiny nibble of ...yikes ..im cringing from it .. Feels like my stomach is going to explode yet still very hungry 😔  How long does this last?! Thank you so much

I have had orthodontic work done. The 3M invisalign material was no problem. BUT my retainers are another matter. They seemed okay for a few months. Now, however, they cause a burning sensation on my tongue, gums and insides of my lips. The burning sensation is now spreading to my throat. I notice it when I breathe. This is annoying and interferes with my enjoyment of eating. I am visiting with my provider tomorrow. We'll see where this goes from here.
