Diagnosing 12 Month Old

Hi! I'm new here, and wanted to check out all you wise folks! :)

Here is our story: I discovered, just the other day, how very alarming my daughter's stools are. I had no idea white poop was so alarming. She has had it several times before, but most recently had it for 5 days. She has been sleeping more than usual lately, 12 + hours at night, and 4-5 hours (in two naps) during the day. She is starting to refuse foods, but I had thought that to be age appropriate. :) Her poop is currently changing from white creamy soft poo to very constipated light brown. The other day her tummy was SO distended, a few hours after throwing-up. She has had many many seemingly random fevers over the past year.

I don't know what to be looking for. The doctor, as a result of seeing the white poop, ran a bunch of blood tests, including something for celiac, as well as looking at the liver, gall bladder, and spleen.

What symptoms would I be seeing in a 12 month old? She is normally, very content and happy. Recently, she has been fussier and oh so tired. I just thought she was teething!

My husband and I don't have celaic disease. I have a host of other problems, PCOS, thyroid disease...

She is the youngest of 3 girls.

Thank you SO much!

kathryn

Your child does sound Celiac to me. Please try the gluten-free diet no matter what the tests say, as they are terribly inaccurate, especially in young children. Also, thyroid disease is linked to Celiac, and most people who have Celiac aren't properly diagnosed. So I wouldn't rule that out either.

Glad you found this site, and I hope your daughter gets better soon!

Welcome to the board!

BTW, we've done other articles on this topic that I wanted to share here (not to condone smoking!):

Hi everyone  This has been a crazy year so far... How many people actually get entire sensory overload from gluten or something similar ?  My jaw is going nuts ..and that nerve is affecting my upper back and so on ...  Bones even hurt.  Brain fog. Etc  I had eggs seemed fine.   Then my aid cooked a chicken stir fry in the microwave because my food order shorted a couple key items .   I was so hungry but I noticed light breading and some ingredients with SOY !!! Why are we suffering with soy ? This triggered a sensitivity to bananas and gluten-free yogurt it seems like it's a cycle that it goes on.  The tiniest amount of something gets me I'm guessing the tiny bit of breading that I took one tiny nibble of ...yikes ..im cringing from it .. Feels like my stomach is going to explode yet still very hungry 😔  How long does this last?! Thank you so much

This is an older article, but may be helpful.

I have had orthodontic work done. The 3M invisalign material was no problem. BUT my retainers are another matter. They seemed okay for a few months. Now, however, they cause a burning sensation on my tongue, gums and insides of my lips. The burning sensation is now spreading to my throat. I notice it when I breathe. This is annoying and interferes with my enjoyment of eating. I am visiting with my provider tomorrow. We'll see where this goes from here.

Exactly which blood tests were done? There are a few different ones and some docs don't do them all. Also, your results and reference ranges for each?
