Okay......this may be graphic, but I need help figuring out what is wrong with me.

I woke this morning feeling okay, but then once went to the washroom it all went downhill from there. First, I had to strain for anything to happen, and when something did it was a small amount and compact ( I canot beleive that I am writing this ). Then, 10 minutes later I had to go again, this time it was a bit of strain, and a little less compact. Ten minutes later AGAIN I had to go, this time it was " flaky ", thin and not so much strain. This continued happening and each time it eas more and more " flaky " and more and more thin. I still feel as if I may need to go at any moment, my stomach feels " off " I am so very tired, my concentration is shot, and from time to time I also feel sick to my stomach.

WHAT is going on. I have been gluten freee for about a week. I have stuck to it very religiously for what I can tell only I am not concerning myself yet with things like hand soap and such.

This is sort of what i was like BEFORE i went off gluten, so I thought maybe I might have glutened myself by accident.....but this is all that I have had in the last two days ( today is Thurs )

Tues:

Breakfast - bananna, crispy brown rice cereal ( box says gluten free ), and silk low fat soy milk.

Snack - nut thins ( box says gluten free ) and a pear

Snack - bit of cut up mango and kiwi

lunch - tuna / quiona / hellmans mayo on gluten free bread, chicken with rice campbells soup

snack - rice crisps with jam

dinner - rice express dish ( says on it gluten free, got at natural store ), bit of parmesean cheese and wheat free soy sauce on it, a chicken breast with BBQ sauce, salad that consisted of just lettuce, 1tsp of flaxseed meal, and kraft catalina dressing ( I am told this one is gluten free ).

before bed I had 1/2 tbsp of aloe vera juice

Wed:

snack - nut thins and some strawberries

snack - a few baby carrots

lunch - campbells healthy harvest clam chowder ( told gluten free ), salad with lettuce, baby corn, a few bean sprouts, tuna and a few almonds and zesty italina dressing ( told gluten free kraft ).

snack - a motts fruitsensation cup

dinner - rice pasta with organic spaghetti sauce and ground beef, 1tsp flaxseed meal, blue water salmon steak, and some peas

before bed agan I had 1/2 tbsp of aloe vera juice.

Sorry for it being so long, I am just not understanding what made me feel this way. Even still I am getting waves from time to time of that feeling of " I need to go to the washroom "...I try and let them pass tho as I HAVE NO MORE :-) The last few days however i have been more or less constipated. I am very bloated right now and hungry, but afraid to eat.....

What could possibly be wrong with me now?

Oh, and also, every day I drink a LOT of different teas - usually peppermint and green tea. Last night as well I did indulge in a few drinks of vodka, but it was a potato vodka that has nto bothered me before.

Hahahaha, oh, and every day I do take a half of a caltrate with vitamin D pill ( says on there gluten free ) along with a one a day weight smart vitamin ( again, says on bottle gluten free )

I'm fairly new at this myself, but I'll give it a shot!

Nut Thins are produced in a facility that also makes products containing wheat. I haven't heard if anyone has had CC issues with them.

I don't think all BBQ sauces are gluten free, and I don't know about your dressings

I'm not real sure about the Campbell's soups---I had their Chunky Chicken, broccoli, cheddar soup and it made me sick. But since then I have found that I can't handle dairy, so that might have been the problem. You had clam chowder and I notice that the only dairy on your list is soy milk. Oh wait, mayonnaise also has dairy. So this could be your problem.

Of course you haven't been doing this very long and you can't be sure you are totally gluten free until you've cheked EVERYTHING---handsoaps,etc. included. This also includes getting rid of wooden spoons, colanders, cutting boards, scratched teflon skillets,etc. that were used pre-gluten free.

I hope this helps. I am also still learning, and just when I think I've got it under control, something else happens :wacko:

First off, you are new to this, right. The reaction to gluten after you have healed and are 100% gluten-free will be worse than before you were diagnosed.

When I first started this diet, and everytime we add a new food allergy to the house, I go through this process.

Mark every product that you have verified is gluten-free and whatever else you are avoiding. Keep to basic foods until you heal and get a better grasp on the diet. It's really irritating to have to call on everything, but your list of safe foods and food you like will grow.

Here are a couple of thoughts.

1. Call Campbells and verify the soup is gluten-free. I have never bought that brand again since going gluten-free, thought there was a problem with it. (Progresso labels well)

2. Lay off the salad dressing for a while until you really heal. I vomit and get the "sick all over" feeling from too much acidic stuff like pineapple and salad dressing just sends me over the edge.

3. Check your toothpaste, lipstic/chapstick, etc.

4. Check those teas. They sound good :rolleyes: And check the Aloe Juice. Verify the Soy milk not all are gluten-free.

5. Check the jelly, BBQ, etc.

I'll chime in too. Still fairly new at this myself. Some people heal quickly and feel better right away. I'm among those who is taking quite a while to feel better....actually I felt worse for a while. It may be that your system is trying to detox, maybe you are going through withdrawal from your old "regular" foods. You may also be developing "other" food sensitivities, which may or may not be permanent. Seems that many people do, as their bodies are healing. I finally had a "normal" bowel movement, the first in years. Actually I thought all of the funky things my intestines were doing all of these years were normal if for no other reason than it was constant. Anyway....after your body has taken such a beating, it may take a while for it to know how it's supposed to act(!?!). Heal fast...feel better soon.

Thanks everyone for responding so quickly.

Yes, I am also lactose intolerant - hence the soy milk, however " back in the day " I could tolerate tiny amounts - like what is found in mayo and soups like clam chowder. Could I be more sensative now?

I am thinking I am just gonna try to stick with a basic diet from now one. Stuff that I KNOW is 100% safe and more natural ( chicken, rice, veggies, fruits )....sucks, but I need to start getting better soon. Being sick like this is affecting my life just way too much in negative ways :-(

If you are lactose intolerant, you should not have the Campbell's chicken and rice soup. It contains milk! Weird, I know. But it does. Not sure about the other soup you ate. I don't have a problem with gluten myself, but I have other food allergies. There are only a couple of their soups I can eat. Daughter can't have gluten among other things and I don't think there are any of their soups she can eat.

Your right, that is VERY odd that that soup contains milk! Lol, how weird.

Thank you though for that bit of information. I have now contacted Campbells and they are mailing me a list of their gluten free product! I will type out and put on this site when I receive it.

      I don't see how cornstarch could alter the test results. Where did you read that?

      For pain relief I take a combination of Thiamine (Benfotiamine), Pyridoxine B 6, and Cobalamine B12.  The combination of these three vitamins has analgesic effects.  I have back pain and this really works.  The B vitamins are water soluble and easily excreted.   Hope this helps!  Keep us posted on your results!

      Welcome to the forum, @Xravith. I experienced similar symptoms before my diagnosis.  Mine were due to the loss of vitamins and minerals, essential nutrients we must get from our food.  With Celiac Disease, the intestinal lining, made up of thousands of villi, gets damaged and cannot absorb essential vitamins and minerals, especially the eight B vitamins.  The loss of Thiamine B 1 can cause muscle loss, inability to gain weight, edema (swelling), fatigue, migraines and palpitations.  Low thiamine can cause Gastrointestinal Beriberi with symptoms of nausea, abdominal pain and bloating.   Thiamine is only stored for a couple of weeks, so if you don't absorb enough from food daily, as the thiamine deficiency worsens physical symptoms gradually worsen.  If you're eating lots of carbs (like gluten containing foods usually do), you need more thiamine to process them (called high calorie malnutrition).  Thiamine works with all the other B vitamins, so if you're low in one, you're probably getting low in the others, too, and minerals like iron, magnesium, zinc, and calcium, as well as Vitamin D..  Talk to your doctor about checking for nutritional deficiencies.  Most doctors rarely recognize vitamin deficiency symptoms, especially in thiamine. Get a DNA test to see if you carry any Celiac genes.  If you do not have genetic markers for Celiac, it's probably IBS.  If you do have genetic markers for Celiac, it's probably Celiac.  I was misdiagnosed with IBS for years before my Celiac diagnosis.   Keep us posted on your progress. P. S. Deficiency in thiamine can cause false negatives on antibody tests, as can diabetes and anemia.

      No she didn't because if I want to ask I have to pay 700$ for 1 hour appointment so I couldn't even ask. I read that fillers like cornstash can alter the result and tylenol contains it so that's why I tried to find someone who can answer.

      Did the GI doc give you any rational for stopping the Tylenol during the gluten challenge? I have never heard of this before and I can't imagine a good reason for it. Ibuprofen, maybe, because it is an anti inflammatory but acetaminophen?  I don't see that it would have any impact on the test results to take Tylenol.
