Another Psoriasis Question...

For those of you that suffer with Psoriatic Arthritis.....I'm wondering if my son could be developing this.

He's had Psoriasis since he was 3, now he's 9. Over the past few months, he's complained of knee pain. It just comes and goes, but hasn't lasted long enough for me to be really concerned. But this morning he was in pain. He was walking, and then just dropped, grabbing his knee. The pain lasted maybe 10 minutes or so, then he was able to walk on it again, and it was just sore. This may be something totally unrelated, so I have made an appt with his pedi just to check things out. I'm just curious if I should maybe ask about PA too???? Thanks for any info you may have!

I had all sorts of pains and whatnot with joints, including my knees. As usual, doctors couldn't find anything...(insert long stories here)...

Anyway, Since going gluten-free, and taking supplements, I'm now seeing all sorts of improvements with things I thought I'd have to live with forever. Even before gluten-free, I did find immense benefit when I discovered and subsequently addressed a candida overgrowth. Never underestimate what that stuff can do the human body! Thank goodness for the local health store owner, as the idiot doctors where completely dumbfounded, suggesting everything else in the book, only made things worse, etc, etc...(more long stories)...

Fast-forward to now, gluten-free wasn't quite enough. A few supplements can do wonders when you know which ones. I'm sure I will find additional stuff helpful, but as of now my suggestions for muscle and joint-related issues would be magnesium, methylcobalamin, calcium, and maybe vitamin D. For TMJ and arthritic-type stuff, glucosamine has been more helpful than I expected. I was only attempting to deal with TMJ, but to my surprise, it has been great for my knees, elbows, wrists, fingers, and a few other things. The one I get also has MSM in it, so I guess I can't be sure what benefits that ingredient may also be having.

Here's one thing I've noticed also, which I am now keeping an eye on as an indicator of progress:nail health. After a long time they are thankfully growing faster and stronger than they had in some time. At their best, I'd need to clip them every 4-5 days. At there worst, it might be weeks! Lately they've been closing in on 5 days again. Sure has been awhile since I saw that!

Still some issues to be dealt with of course, and that may always be true, but thanks to the Internet I can dig around and learn what else to try. And most certainly thanks to this board!

That's about all I can suggest. I'm sure others will have helpful advice for you. I Hope you find the things you need to help your son soon!

Thank you so much for sharing your experience and I found myself giggling with happiness as I read how your body reached such spring! And I hope that your current journey is also successful!! Definitely starting the food diary! So many amazing advices. And it’s very scary. It really hits all our soft spots as well as our confidence system. Most doctors I went thought I was underage despite being in my late 20s. Right now I look like am I twelve, but is also this body that’s taking so much, so I might as well love it too! Going to make the necessary changes and stay in this path. Thank you again! 🫶

Thank you so much for the information and kind message! Reading this transformed how I’ve been viewing my efforts and progress. Guess there’s still a lot to celebrate and also heal 😌  Yes, I’ve been taking it! Just recently started taking a multivitamin supplement and separated vitamin D! I also took chewable Iron polymaltose for ferritin deficiency 2 months ago but was unable to absorb any of it.  Thank you again! Hearing such gentle words from the community makes my body and heart more patient and excited for the future.

Your post demonstrates the profound frustration and isolation that so many in the Celiac community feel, and I want to thank you for channeling that experience into advocacy. The medical gaslighting you endured for decades is an unacceptable and, sadly, a common story, and the fact that you now have to "school" your own GI specialist speaks volumes about the critical lack of consistent and updated education. Your idea to make Celiac Disease a reportable condition to public health authorities is a compelling and strategic one. This single action would force the system to formally acknowledge the prevalence and seriousness of the disease, creating a concrete dataset that could drive better research funding, shape medical school curricula, and validate the patient experience in a way that individual stories alone often cannot. It is an uphill battle, but contacting representatives, as you have done with Adam Gray, is exactly how change begins. By framing it as a public health necessity—a matter of patient safety and protection from misdiagnosis and neglect—you are building a powerful case. Your voice and your perseverance, forged through thirty years of struggle, are exactly what this community needs to ensure that no one else has to fight so hard just to be believed and properly cared for.

I had no idea there is a "Louisville" in Colorado!😉 I thought it was a typo because I always think of the Kentucky city--but good luck!
