Which Tests To Request?

Ive been diagnosed w/ Hashimoto's Thyroiditis a while back and Ive just come upon more than a couple reports that there is a strong link between Hashi's and Celiac's when researching some meds. Ive thought for over more than a year that I have Celiacs (mild symptoms), so I think its a good time to get tested now.

So, which specific tests should I request from my Doc. I go in this afternoon....

Thanks!

-Rob

Print out information from the link (the part "Serological Testing) and bring with you. Its from a leading Celiac researcher at Columbia University.

Open Original Shared Link

Serologic panel

Of the commercially available serologic tests that aid in the diagnosis of celiac disease, no one test is ideal. Using multiple serologies increases the diagnostic yield. Therefore, in the United States, screening in patients with possible celiac disease should consist of a panel of the following serologic tests:

Anti-gliadin antibodies (AGA) both IgA and IgG

Anti-endomysial antibodies (EMA) - IgA

Anti-tissue transglutaminase antibodies (tTG) - IgA

Total IgA level.

The reason for the use of the panel to detect celiac disease is several fold. They include selective IgA deficiency (SIgA deficiency), lack of concordance of endomysial antibody and tTG, and the occurrence of seronegative celiac disease.

Well, the doc ordered up the tests. Good thing I checked in here first and brought that printout as the Celiac Panel at the lab didnt include the Anti-tissue transglutaminase antibodies (tTG) - IgA test. So he ordered that one as well. Hopefully the test results will be back sometime today.

Again, thanks for the help!

Well, I got my results back. Looks like Im celiac free, which is good. Though, I still feel better not eating that stuff so Im going to avoid it anyways. Atleast I know now that its not critical for me to avoid ;)

ANTIGLIADIN AB - IgA: <3 - U/mL

Reference Range:

NEGATIVE: <11

EQUIVOCAL: 11-17

POSITIVE: >17

IMMUNOGLOBULIN A: 277

Reference Range:

Normal: 81-463 mg/dL

TISSUE TRANSGLUTAMINASE IgA AB <3 - U/mL

Reference Range:

NEGATIVE: <5

EQUIVOCAL: 5-8

POSITIVE: >8

Im still waiting for the ENDOMYSIAL ANTIBODY IGA results, but from the looks of those three it looks pretty normal, right? Thoughts???

Hi everyone  This has been a crazy year so far... How many people actually get entire sensory overload from gluten or something similar ?  My jaw is going nuts ..and that nerve is affecting my upper back and so on ...  Bones even hurt.  Brain fog. Etc  I had eggs seemed fine.   Then my aid cooked a chicken stir fry in the microwave because my food order shorted a couple key items .   I was so hungry but I noticed light breading and some ingredients with SOY !!! Why are we suffering with soy ? This triggered a sensitivity to bananas and gluten-free yogurt it seems like it's a cycle that it goes on.  The tiniest amount of something gets me I'm guessing the tiny bit of breading that I took one tiny nibble of ...yikes ..im cringing from it .. Feels like my stomach is going to explode yet still very hungry 😔  How long does this last?! Thank you so much

I have had orthodontic work done. The 3M invisalign material was no problem. BUT my retainers are another matter. They seemed okay for a few months. Now, however, they cause a burning sensation on my tongue, gums and insides of my lips. The burning sensation is now spreading to my throat. I notice it when I breathe. This is annoying and interferes with my enjoyment of eating. I am visiting with my provider tomorrow. We'll see where this goes from here.

Exactly which blood tests were done? There are a few different ones and some docs don't do them all. Also, your results and reference ranges for each?
