Hi All,

I am just about 8 weeks pregnant and have several trips scheduled for work over the next 6 weeks. The first is next week and I will be flying from Philadelphia to Texas which is about a 4.5 hour flight. I've already booked a hotel with a kitchen and will be shipping myself a box full of food in advance so I'm good there but here's my two questions.

1. I get "morning" sickness from about 10am to 2pm everyday and then it slowly tapers off. My flights are later in the day thankgoodness. I also normally feel a little quesy/motion sick when I fly (although more so before I was gluten-free) so I'm worried I'm going to feel awful on the plane. Any tips to help with this double dose of nausea?

2. My flight home next week is at 6:00pm and doesn't get into Philly until close to midnight so I'll miss dinner. I'm trying to plan ahead with a variety of food for that flight. One of the things I want to bring is a tiny 3oz can of tuna for protein. It meets the under 3oz rule but has anyone gotten tuna through security?

And I know I said two questions but I really have another one. When did you guys start to show? I feel like I woke up this morning with a little belly but according to all the pregnancy sites that shouldn't happen for about another month. I always trust the responses I get here more than other places online :D

I took a can of tuna 2 ways on an international filght and had no problem. They didn't even ask about it. They were smoked tuna fillets in oil in a pop top tin, but I think the tuna in a pouch with travel size mayo would have been better. I opened mine in the airport and had it on gluten-free crackers but it was a little messy.

Minimus.biz sells travel size stuff.

I have not tried to get tuna through security but I do bring my salad dressing through. I put it in my 1 quart bag with my toletries in a 2 oz container. You might try doing the same with the 3oz can of tuna fish.

I would take the tuna out the morning of and put it in a tupperware with a couple squares from an ice mat. This way it will be pre-drained and not even considered a liquid

Check with your doc about tuna. I'm 12 weeks and doc told me to avoid it, maybe it's high in mercury? As for nausea, sucking on lemons has always helped me. You might want to try it... or OJ works, too. Just anything with acid seems to settle my stomach. Stay away from really fatty foods the night before the flight too. I too am flying in a couple weeks and I plan to pack naked nuts, if you can eat those for protein, and a lot of small snacks. Usually, they are very understanding when you explain you have a severe allergy.

I would also check with your doctor about the tuna. I am nine months pregnant and told tuna was definitly a "no-no" food item bc of the high mercury count. Otherwise... they sell tuna in pouches now for "on the go" eating. That might be easier to get through security.

Oh and real quick, for the person that posted above me, I would check with your airline about the nuts first. A lot of airlines now have a very strict "no nuts of any kind" rule.

Thanks for your responses! I'm bringing trail mix that has nuts in it. I've brought it on this airline before and never had a problem. If they say anyone has a nut allergy on the flight (which has happened before), I just won't eat them until later. As for the tuna, my doctor said it was ok to eat 6 ounces of fish (either salmon or light tuna but not white) a week. This is only 3 ounces of light tuna so I should be ok. I did go out and buy the packet instead of the small can just in case. Thanks again!

Yeah, tuna is fine in moderation. I've also gotten peanut butter on a plane before, it's not really a liquid so they let me take it, with gluten free crackers or veggies or fruit etc. Nuts are also great and I like Larabars and Lunabars, which are both gluten free, for snacks when I'm on the go. For nausea, I found ginger to be very helpful. Ginger chews and ginger drops by the Ginger People (you can google them or often find them in health food stores) are gluten free. Or sour patch kids/sour watermelons helped me with nausea too, sour things seem to be a big craving for me when pregnant. Good luck!

      I take both Benfotiamine and TTFD.   You might want to start with the Benfotiamine for a few days and then add in the TTFD.   You can look for NeuroMag (Magnesium Threonate).  A magnesium glycinate is fine, too.  Doctor's Best is a good brand.  Don't take more than 300mg total per day of magnesium or it may have a laxative effect.   Be sure to take the B Complex.  The Benfotiamine and TTFD will need the other B vitamins.

      Life Extension Benfotiamine with Thiamine has 100MG of Ben and 25 of Thia..... Do you think this is the one I should take or Objective Nutrients Thiamax (TTFD) which has 100MG Thiamine. How much magnesium should I look for? I take the womens 50+ multivitamin since consumerlabs stated and tested that it has the right amount of vitamins and not too much for men and doesn't have BHT which has shown to cause liver cancer in animals. I was never big with multivitamins as well as doctors I just read when I was first going gluten free to take a multi but I think I will stop them and work on trying the super B Thia and Ben, Mag.

      Hi all I’ve been celiac for 4 years now, I’ve done pretty well to avoid it thus far. Last night I took the wrong pizza out of the freezer and ate the whole lot!! The non gluten and gluten pizza boxes are both very similar.   2 hours later I was throwing up violently on my hands and knees over the loo.  .horrendous stomach pains,  My hair was wet from sweat every part of my body was wet. What an awful experience, just had a bad headache today  fortunately.    Is their any products/pills anyone takes if they have realised they have just been glutened to make the symptoms a little less worse.  thanks

      Yes, do take your B Complex with Benfotiamine or Thiamax.  Thiamine interacts with each of the other B vitamins in the B Complex to make energy and enzymes, so best to take them together earlier in your day.  Taking them too close to bedtime can keep you too energetic to go to sleep.   The Life Extension Benfotiamine with Thiamine is Benfotiamine and Thiamine Hydrochloride, another form of thiamine the body likes.  The Thiamine HCl just helps the Benfotiamine work better.   Read the label for how many milligrams are in them.  The Mega Benfotiamine is 250 mgs.  Another Benfothiamine has 100 mgs.  You might want to start with the 100 mg.    I like to take Thiamax in the morning with a B Complex at breakfast.  I take the Benfotiamine with another meal.  You can take your multivitamin with Benfotiamine at lunch.   Add a magnesium supplement, too.  Thiamine needs magnesium to make some important enzymes.  Life Extension makes Neuro-Mag, Magnesium Threonate, which is really beneficial.  (Don't take Magnesium Oxide.  It's not absorbed well, instead it pulls water into the digestive tract and is used to relieve constipation.)  I'm not a big fan of multivitamins because they don't always dissolve well in our intestines, and give people a false sense of security.  (There's videos on how to test how well your multivitamin dissolves.).  Multivitamins don't prevent deficiencies and aren't strong enough to correct deficiencies.   I'm happy you are trying Thiamax and Benfotiamine!  Keep us posted on your progress!  I'm happy to answer any questions you may have.

      I looked further into Thiamax Vitamin B1 by objective nutrients and read all the great reviews. I think I will give this a try. I noticed only possible side affect is possibly the first week so body adjusts. Life Extensions carries Benfotiamine with Thiamine and the mega one you mentioned. Not sure if both in one is better or seperate. some reviews state a laxative affect as side affect. SHould I take with my super B complex or just these 2 and multivitamin? I will do further research but I appreciate the wonderful explanation you provided on Thiamine.
