I have been diagnosed with Celiac for a year now, and in that yr have become a new resident of California where i am having extreme allergies for the first time. Last week I started taking the over the counter "compare to Claritan" generic allergy medicine and was terribly sick with "glutened" symptoms all week. Upon glancing at the inactive ingredients I saw one listed as "postgelatinized starch". From what I could find on the internet this looked as though it was a form of Gluten. I was wondering if any one knows for sure? Or what over the counter/or RX allergy meds are gluten free?

Thanks! :)

Hi and welcome :)

The best way to know if the medication you have there is gluten-free is to call the manufacturer. There should be an 800 number on the package or label.

I use Claritin for allergies. Zyrtek is also gluten-free.

I use Claritin Original and do not have any problems. Since you tried the comparison one it may have different additives that are not safe.

GOOD LUCK

i also use the generic brand Claritin. I got a good deal on the RiteAid brand a few months ago and then just picked up the Walmart brand about 2 weeks ago. i didn't have any noticeable problems with either brand. my face typically breaks out and i'm constantly running for the bathroom when i'm glutened so i think i would have noticed. that's not to say they don't contain gluten...just chiming in with my 2 cents worth.

I use Zyrtec for indoor/outdoor allergies, and Sudafed for food allergies when I eat something I shouldn't . . .

Thank you that’s really helpful, hopeful won’t have to have a biopsy.

That means the normal range (i.e. not celiac disease) would be a result less than 14.99.  Your result is WAY above that. Some gastroenterologists would diagnose that as celiac disease even without a confirming biopsy because it is more than ten times the top of the normal range.

Hi everyone. Back in 2022 I had blood work drawn for iga ext gliadin. Since then I’ve developed worse stomach issues and all other health issues. My doctor just said cut out gluten. He did no further testing. Please see my test results attached. I just need some direction cause I feel so ill and the stomach pain is becoming worse. Can this test show indications for other gastrointestinal diseases?

Thank you. These were the results TTG ABS NUMERICAL: > 250.0 U/mL [< 14.99]  Really don’t understand the results!

Clearly from what you've said the info on Dailymed is much more up to date than the other site, which hasn't been updated since 2017. The fact that some companies might be repackaging drugs does not mean the info on the ingredients is not correct.
