Getting Dh And I Tested

Ok, so while we're waiting to see our DD's ped GI, I really want to have DH and I tested. I think it would give us more insight, and if one of us were positive then I probably would absolutely refuse an endoscopy for DD b/c we are 99% sure she has it anyway...

I was wondering if you think I could just call my doc and ask him to give me orders for a lab? I really do not want to have to make an appt for me and DH, pay the co-pays, when really all I want is a lab. As it is, we're forking out gas money and co-pays for the specialist for my DD... I just really can't afford anymore. But if the doc just ordered a lab, with no office visit, there would be no copay, and I could make payments on whatever my insurance didn't cover. Do you think it is reasonable for me to ask him to do that since DD is suspected of having Celiac? Or will we have to wait for a formal diagnosis from her doc in order to get testing done for us?

I would go ahead and call and ask. Are you and your DH having health issues of your own? If so that might make it easier to get them to order the test. If you have the kind of doctor who does evening call backs I would ask to have him call and ask him directly. That way you could explain why you really want the tests done ASAP. Even if your not having issues if your DD has had a positive blood then she does have it, regardless of the endo. If she has had a positive blood all first degree relatives need to be tested whether they have symptoms or not.

DH and I could both possibly fit some of the classic Celiac symptoms. Neither one of us seems to think it is reasonable that we both have it (what would be the odds?), but it is a definite possibility and we wouldn't be surprised which one of us it was.

These are my symptoms:

Weight issues all my life (gaining, not losing, to eating all I want and maintaining),

Joint pain since I was 17, now getting worse, started in my knees at 17 and is now in both shoulders as well as my fingers/wrists if I am doing anything intricate like crocheting

Chronic constipation in my late teens/early twenties

Now I have a BM anywhere between at least twice per day to 6 times per day (about half or more float)

ADD/Anxiety/Depression depending on the day, but I've really learned to control the swinging moods without meds because I really hate being dependent on drugs to be "normal"

Insomnia/wild dreams

constant fatigue

typically low iron

Struggled with cavities since I was 21... my poor teeth

And I don't know if this one counts, but I was reading somewhere about a link between Mono and Celiac, I had a severe case of Mono when I was 17 coupled with Strep at the same time

Now, here are DH's symptoms:

Overweight since late teens/early twenties

I've ALWAYS accused him of having IBS... food seems to go straight through him depending on what we have. He says it never floats, but he has loose stools more than anyone I know

He has always had high blood pressure

Sleep Apnea

A slew of allergies as a kiddo

Incredibly gassy....*pppeeeeeeew*

The past few years his teeth have started having more cavaties

His mother and his sister struggled with infertility and obesity, also his niece was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis at 3

I'm not really sure what to think. DH thinks it's me, but I lean more towards him.

The odds you both are gluten intolerant are really pretty good. Everyone in my family assumed it was inherited from me until I pointed out that both children showed up on blood work. I don't. That prompted my ex to get tested and guess what? He was positive also. You both show symptoms of gluten intolerance even if it is not full blown celiac. After you all are done with the testing you choose to do the whole family should go on the diet, strictly for a bit. Even if those results are negative or a real low positive. I think you will be surprised how much everyones health will improve.

@jeffpine, please realize that GliadinX is not designed to allow you to eat large amounts of gluten without celiac repercussions. It is designed to counteract cross contamination situations where you might be exposed to small amounts of gluten accidentally such as you might get in a restaurant when you order something that should be gluten free but it is cooked on the same grill with stuff that has wheat. Also remember that the absence of noticeable uncomfortable reactions doesn't necessarily equate to no damage happening to the small bowel lining.

Welcome to the forum, @Dema! The current recommendations for the "gluten challenge" leading up to the day of testing are the daily consumption of at least 10g of gluten (about the amount found in 4-6 slices of wheat bread) daily for at least two weeks. I hope this helps you in your decision. This information represents more recently updated guidelines but you will find older info giving more relaxed guidelines that were found to be not reliable.

Hi everyone :). I think I have a high likelihood of having celiac and will please Gd have a blood test in 2 days time confirming this. over the past two weeks I’ve been on and off (to max 5 days) gluten to cope with my symptoms however now I can see online that I’m supposed to be having 2 servings of gluten every day for 6 weeks, which isn’t even my normal diet.  should I reschedule my blood test. I would really love for it to be diagnosed soon. Would appreciate any advice! thanks!

WOW WOW WOW, your site did it for me: like this, i saw the ads for GliadinX and followed the product. There were several knockoffs. my engineer friend seperated them and found one at the local CVS at a bargain price. So yesterday I tried it. Twice. Lunch and dinner. works fine. Much obliged,

I am actively dealing with a ray of issues, my skin, eyes and digestive even though not eating wheat.Menopuase has activated so much right now, considering its getting worse with my health. I have learned so much thanks to this website.I wasn't properly told of my celiac disease which was confirmed by colonoscopy and endoscopy in 1994 the same year I gave birth to my first son, my tolerance level was horrible. After being diagnosed and staying away from wheat continued problems. My chiropractor at the time in 2007 had my blood work sent off and turns out I have more food allergies. I told my primary of my celiac disease in 2000 and continued to see that doctor up until May if this year 2025 considering my celiac disease was ignored, disregarded and what Im currently going through and been through. I assumed my celiac disease was " registered " at the time in 1994 just as pregnancy and other ailments are reported. I was shocked to learn that its not a mandated reportable disease not documented by the state from hospitals which I for one think it should be considering all the medical gaslighting im dealing with which is causing depression. Im told not worry about other, well I am and its NOT right. It needs to be documented so others don't suffer and go through this nightmare. Im seriously ready to go down to the mayors office and make some noise. Thoughts?
