Swelling Tongue

I never told a doctor about this cause I did not want to seem nuts but some times my tongue swells so much that I bite it. I could never figure out why. I have been gluten free for about 6 weeks ( got glutened twice.) Tonight I was in a sandwich shop with other people. One was eating. I was drinking raspberry tea. I started having some little trouble talking and noticed my tongue was so swollen that it did not fit inside my teeth correctly. It over hung my teeth on both sides of my mouth.

When I got up I stumbled a little bit and then walked three blocks to my car with a friend. In my car my tongue was still large but about 10 minutes latter it fit back between my teeth. The sides of my tongue are a little sore. Could this have been from the wheat in the air? Am I nuts? any clue. I did not have breathing problems during the tongue swelling. I have always just brushed this off as some possible allergy but could never figure out what it was. I drink tea at home often but never raspberry tea. but i do eat fresh raspberries with no problem. Any ideas on what happened to me, so I can stop doing it?

ONe more mile.

( thanks in advance for all your answer's)

This sounds like a true allergy to something. You really need to get this evaluated by an allergist. This type of reaction can become very serious with no warning. Please get an appointment with an allergist.

I agree with ravenwoodglass. I would see an allergist right away. You don't want to mess around with that.

I was diagnosed with gluten sensitivity and a wheat allergy as a child in the early 1960s, . which I inherited from my father's DNA. My mom tried the best she could with both of us, but in those times health and allergies were kind of brushed aside.  I grew out of it, or so we thought, but the rashes reared their ugly heads while I was in college. Keg parties (wheat & gluten in beer and youthful reckess eating led to an outbreak. To the point, I am a 65 year old and now living with full blown celiac with dermatitis herpetiformis blisters that are just beginning to receed after being gluten-free for over 2 years at least. The lesions are so unsightly that I need to stay covered. Ive been living in South Florida and would love to wear shorts but people see the sores and thing I am a leper. Ive lost a lot of weigh from  stomach cramps and frequent bowel movements. Will this ever end!

@StuartJ, what brand of gluten-free flour did she use?

Congrats! Can you share the recipe? We just picked up a bread maker from an estate sale and are experimenting.
