How Common Are These?

both of my parents show strong signs of being celiac, and two of my younger siblings have been confirmed celiac

my mom is cherokee and my dad is british; one of my two brothers who has this disease is my <half> brother on her side. this led me to ask.. how common is celiac in native americans? i cant find any stats because its such a modernly obscure race.

the milk allergy (not to be confused with lactose-intolerance) is a common thing for natives, and i think i got my egg allergy from her too.. but i got a chlorine and chocolate allergy from my dad. sense they may both be celiac (tests pending) i cant be sure if these allergies are related - so again i ask how common is a combo of celiac, milk, eggs, and chlorine?

PS :: i am not talking about food intolerance, but allergies.

I have a neighbor that is allergic to strawberries and chlorine but nothing else as far as I know. She is, I think, 1/16th Indian or it might have been 1/8th. She's not a celiac...yet anyway. She is almost 20 yrs old. Her older brother has occasional seizures (football injury) and acid reflux plus he clears his throat all the time. Their dad, age 60, just died from esophageal cancer, he was a heavy smoker (their mom is too).

well, not to be rude but purple.. that seems both depressing and unrelated to the topic.

Sorry...just trying to help...Celiac causes many illnesses was my point and they are part Indian not to forget the gal is allergic to chlorine... the kids are just not sick enough yet to be diagnosed. They certainly have some related symptoms that only time will tell. Sometimes it takes years. I thought it was a bit related to the topic. Once again...sorry!

I remembered one more thing, when the gal comes to our house she sneezes and we have lots of pets...another symptom. I have heard her say she has allergies.

my chlorine allergy is from my European family not native american, and you mentioned she was only 1/16th native american (meaning shes got other genetics, probably some european?) and not her or any of her family are identified as celiac, just people with allergies, which is why it didn't actually give any tangible information

I'm Native American and so is my Mom and we both have celiac and allergic to cow's milk(although we can get away with mozzarella cheese). Another person I know who's Native American has celiac as well.

Purple,

Your comments made perfect sense to me and I think related to the topic. Your neighbor is part Indian and does have a chlorine allergy. I am 1/8 Manitowac Indian. Yes I know I am blonde and blue eyed like my European father :P My mom and sister have the beautiful olive skin and dark brown eyes and hair. My mom is half and has all my celiac symptoms but refuses to be tested. We are all here to help in anyway we think may have a connection to celiac!

Hi. I am Celiac. My grandmother was full Cherokee. I'm not sure how many pure bloods there are in order to get any kind of statistics, but would be interesting to know, not only about Celiac but about any "general illnesses" common to the races. Good luck finding your info!

If im not mistaken, the last few pure blood cherokee were the grandparents of todays adults and young adults and are now close to non-existent. pure native american these days means a mix of tribes. that is probably why no stats can really be found..

sense all natives (even as far down the line as 1/32nd) seem predisposed to the milk allergy gene, does that automatically mean celiac too? are the allergies that closley related??

because both you and presumably that girl are part european, and as i stated the chlorine allergy i have my european dad also has, "chlorine" and "native" don't logically connect.

the other post doesnt connect "native" with "celiac" but yours might, and, your comment Does potentially connect celiac and chlorine allergy. im getting the impression alot of natives, both "thick and thin" blooded, have gluten issues.

i read its not uncommon in african americans, and back in the day they more often mixed with natives in marriage than any other race, so many black people today have native genetics too, and that could imply that almost all natives had celiac along with the milk allergies?

BTW, we've done other articles on this topic that I wanted to share here (not to condone smoking!):

Hi everyone  This has been a crazy year so far... How many people actually get entire sensory overload from gluten or something similar ?  My jaw is going nuts ..and that nerve is affecting my upper back and so on ...  Bones even hurt.  Brain fog. Etc  I had eggs seemed fine.   Then my aid cooked a chicken stir fry in the microwave because my food order shorted a couple key items .   I was so hungry but I noticed light breading and some ingredients with SOY !!! Why are we suffering with soy ? This triggered a sensitivity to bananas and gluten-free yogurt it seems like it's a cycle that it goes on.  The tiniest amount of something gets me I'm guessing the tiny bit of breading that I took one tiny nibble of ...yikes ..im cringing from it .. Feels like my stomach is going to explode yet still very hungry 😔  How long does this last?! Thank you so much

I have had orthodontic work done. The 3M invisalign material was no problem. BUT my retainers are another matter. They seemed okay for a few months. Now, however, they cause a burning sensation on my tongue, gums and insides of my lips. The burning sensation is now spreading to my throat. I notice it when I breathe. This is annoying and interferes with my enjoyment of eating. I am visiting with my provider tomorrow. We'll see where this goes from here.

Exactly which blood tests were done? There are a few different ones and some docs don't do them all. Also, your results and reference ranges for each?
