I just got a call from Trader Joe's that their "Sweetened Corn Puffs" are gluten-free. They do not appear on the company's gluten-free web listing... but when I saw them at the store and inquired about them, the manager called "corporate headquarters" and called me at home to tell me they were indeed gluten-free!

So far we've had no problems with them.

Malt-O-Meal's version are gluten-free as well. AND available at Walmart. Just an f.y.i.!! :)

Keep reading the malt-o-meal labels. The formulation will/should/supposedly is changing soon, to add wheat. Be on the safe side and always read.

Did you ask about the cross contamination issue with the Trader Joe's food? I'm curious because I've been warned about them not always being as careful as they should be with their foods.

Yes, I am aware of the "pending doom" with Malt-O-Meal. I am enjoying their good, inexpensive cereals while I can!

Wegman's has a gluten-free Corn Pops and several cereals and they label them gluten-free on the front of the box!

Gillian... I did'nt ask about crosscontamination, but we are pretty sensitive and so far so good... I will call though.

Tania... Where is Wegman's? Is it a brand or a store? I haven't seen it in New England.

Thanks for the Malt-O-Meal tip. I'll have to pillage the local Wal-Mart before they add wheat. (Last year we bought 11 boxes of Kellogg's Corn Pops before they added wheat... my kind hearted daughter suggested I leave some for other gluten-free families, I'm sure we will do the same at Wal-Mart) :)

I had contacted Malt-O-Meal recently and was told that they have had quite an onslaught of complaints about the impending ingredient change. MAYBE if enough of us continue to call, write, e-mail and let them know just how important it is to have low cost gluten-free food choices, especially for picky children, they may reconsider changing their ingredients to include wheat. They also sent me 4 coupons to get some of the cereals...

If Malt-O-Meal ever changes their indgredients I would be so screwed. I eat at least one box a week of the crisy rice....and it is pretty muc the only thing that I eat. I will def. get involved with the contacting of them to call and complain about it. :)

I've never tried Malt-O-Meal cereals before; do they put their gluten-free cereals on separate lines to avoid cross contamination issues? If so, I'll have to try them out before they put wheat in them!

Mini-

There are only 3 malt o meal cereals that are gluten free (that I have ever recieved confirmation on). Crispy rice isn't one of the three. Here are the 3 that are safe (for a while longer).

*Malt-O-Meal Corn Bursts

*Malt-O-Meal Fruity Dyno-Bites

*Malt-O-Meal Cocoa Dyno-Bites cereal

Try Barbara's Puffins Honey Rice Cereal, it is gluten-free and so good. I eat it nearly every morning. It has just a hint of an almond flavor. I eat it with rice milk as I am also casein intolerant. Some of Barbara's other Puffin cereals are not gluten-free, however this particular one is. The Honey Rice one stays crunchy in the milk all the way to the last piece which I just love about it.

I just called this morning about the Crispy Rise and it is not gluten-free. i have no idea what I am going to do, cereal is pretty much the only thing that I eat. If anyone has anymore information on gluten-free cereals please list them. Thanks Amanda :)

I just called Malt-O-Meal ~ Their Puffed Rice is gluten-free. I was asking about their Coco Roos... no luck there!! They have wheat starch. She said that, yes, they have been getting an onslaught of calls ~ yeah!!! Sooo, I hope they are going to consider changing their decision.

Wegman's is a large grocery store in New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Virginia. It has lots of health foods and gluten-free food. The cereals I mentioned are also priced well (less than $2 a box). However, they do not sell on-line.

We really like the Envirokidz cereals too. Bob's Red Mill makes a very good hot cereal called "Mighty Tasty gluten-free Hot Cereal". I like it with a little unsweetened applesauce and molasses or honey added. There is another one that is pretty good called "Rice and Shine". I think it's from Arrowhead Mills.

Parts of that posting are true. No, they are not adding gluten, according to my friend who works at Malt-o-Meal. I heard back from him today and he confirmed that Cocoa Dyno Bytes and Corn Bursts will no longer be made on dedicated lines, starting sometime in the summer. The reason? Sales are not high enough to justify dedicated lines. Fruity Dyno Bytes, however, are selling well enough, so the current plan is to keep those on a dedicated line.

Interesting, I sure would like to know what the "true" story is on them. I know the lady told me they were changing and adding wheat. <_<

      Get tested for vitamin deficiencies. Though neuropathy can be a symptom of celiac, it can also be caused by deficiencies due to poor digestion caused by celiac and could be easier to treat.

      Thank you so much for your response Yes it seems as though things get very painful as time goes on. I'm not eating gluten as far as I know. However, I'm not sure of cross contamination. My system seems to weaken to hidden spices and other possibilities. ??? if cross contamination is possible...I am in a super sensitive mode of celiac disease...

      EXACTLY! I was asked yesterday on my LAST video call with Standford and I stated exactly yes absolutely this is why I need the name! One, get proper care, two, not get worse.Im falling apart, stressed out, in pain and just opened email from Stanford stating I was rude ect.I want that video reviewed by higher ups and see if that women still has a job or not...

It took me 20+ years of regularly going to doctors desperate for answers only to be told there was nothing wrong with me … when I was 20 pounds underweight, suffering from severe nutritional deficiencies, and in a great deal of pain. I had to figure it out for myself. If you're in the U.S., not having an official diagnosis does mean you can't claim a tax deduction for the extra expense of gluten-free foods. But it can also be a good thing. Pre-existing conditions might be a reason why a health insurance company might reject your application or charge you more money. No official diagnosis means you don't have a pre-existing condition. I really hope you don't live in the U.S. and don't have these challenges. Do you need an official diagnosis for a specific reason? Else, I wouldn't worry about it. As long as you're diligent in remaining gluten free, your body should be healing as much as possible so there isn't much else you could do anyway. And there are plenty of us out here who never got that official diagnosis because we couldn't eat enough gluten to get tested. Now that the IL-2 test is available, I suppose I could take it, but I don't feel the need. Someone else not believing me really isn't my problem as long as I can stay in control of my own food.

You pretty much need to cook with whole ingredients yourself to avoid it completely. Most gluten-free products should be safe, but while you're in the hypersensitive phase right after going gluten free, you may notice that when something like a microwave meal seems to not be gluten-free … then you find out that it is produced in a shared facility where it can become contaminated. My reactions were much-more severe after going gluten free. The analogy that I use is that you had a whole army of soldiers waiting for some gluten to attack, and now that you took away their target, when the stragglers from the gluten army accidentally wander onto the battlefield, you still have your entire army going out and attacking them. Expect it to take two years before all of the training facilities that were producing your soldiers have fallen into disrepair and are no longer producing soldiers. But that is two years after you stop accidentally glutening yourself. Every time you do eat gluten, another training facility can be built and more soldiers will be waiting to attack. Good luck figuring things out.
