Gluten Free: I Am Missing Something....

Hello. My son is just over two. After a negative biopsy but some fishy bloodwork, we have been told to treat our son as if he has celiac's even though it is not a for sure thing. That is fine becuase if he even looks at gluten he gets sick. He has been "gluten free" for months but i think i am missing something because he still is not back to normal (although much better). He gets no direct source of gluten but i am not sure how far i have to go in determining if something is safe to use. For instance, seasonings? can i use the big bottle of taco seasoning from Costco? There is no gluten listed but it does not say Gluten Free. My son cant have dairy but there are vegetable based butter like spreads, again, no gluten listed but doesnt say gluten free? I am just not sure where he is being exposed. I am confident in our cooking procedures and kitchen set up. I appreciate any help.

ALso, does anyone have a child with Eosinophilia? they are thinking my son may have that in addition or instead since he seems to have a problem with any food he eats more than a few weeks straight. I dont know a lot about it. Is it commonly tied to celiacs?

Thank you in advance,

Debbie

It could be that he simply needs more time to heal. However, does he get symptoms that seem to come out of nowhere, like he ate something he shouldn't have? I don't know about taco seasoning containing gluten, but I do know that red pepper is often in that sort of stuff. Many find that nightshades are a problem. Also, have you tried eliminating other top allergens, like soy, corn, nuts, eggs, etc?

Yes, he is actually egg, gluten, oats, buckwheat, soy, dairy, rice, nut, tomatoe free (to name a few) they all bother him.

and also to clear up, he has been pretty much gluten free since last july. i only started worrying about cross contamination in december because of the diagnosis.... from july to about thanksgiving he was doing so well with spurts here and there and then december he was just a mess... we are seeing new doctors so who knows...

One other thought, is the possibility of a candida overgrowth. Leaky gut and candida seem to go hand-in-hand, and this can cause intolerances to all sorts of foods. In my experience, caprylic acid capsules worked great. Of course, you'd also need to avoid all sugars, yeasts (including yeast breads), vinegars (including ketchup), and fruit. Improvement should be seen in a few weeks, I think.

If I think of anything else, I'll be sure to mention it. Hopefully, others will have some ideas for you to try.

Your frustration and exhaustion are completely valid, and many in the celiac and gluten-sensitive community can relate to the overwhelming confusion you're experiencing. You’re being pulled in different directions by medical advice that seems contradictory, and it’s heartbreaking that your efforts to feel better are met with so many setbacks. Positive TTG IgA antibodies are not something to brush off, especially when combined with your long list of debilitating symptoms that clearly worsen with gluten exposure. A negative biopsy does not necessarily mean you don’t have celiac disease—it’s entirely possible that damage was missed, especially since biopsy results can vary...

While a definitive causal link remains unclear, vitamin D's known role in immune modulation and intestinal barrier integrity suggests that it plays a significant role in the development and progression of celiac disease.  Reduced 25(OH)D levels are associated with celiac disease.  In celiac disease, gluten can damage these tight junctions, and vitamin D may play a protective role in this context.

I have posted a lot on here and find that the support , advice and information here is much more helpful than anything else.. ever. I am really tired of the back and forth advice in the medical community and I am beyond frustrated and over all of it currently. I will try to keep this as brief as possible. I have positive TTG IGA antibodies - and I have had these every time I have been tested. The first time they were positive I was told I did not have celiac and couldn't have celiac but I was gluten intolerant and to go gluten free. I did this for about 3-4 months, dedicated I might add, and I did feel better. However, my blood glucose went up drastically and since I was already pre-diabetic...

No, I have not been checked for any other deficiencies or issues. No one will check these things since my EGD looked normal and there was no damage. I recently saw my gastro doc and it is just frustrating. I have diabetes, which is basically uncontrolled, and I keep being told, stop eating gluten free, because the gluten free diet is contributing to my diabetes worsening. Then I am told oh just eat gluten free and you can go on insulin, which I don't feel like is a good answer either. So I end up eating gluten because they tell me it's okay or that I should bc of my diabetes. I am so sick today - physically mentally emotionally - just tired of this roller coaster ride.  I am open  for any realistic...
