Hi.............Has anyone had any experience with L Glutamine?

I've found a ntritional supplement from a UK company (Biocare) that suggests it can help speed up the recovery process.

I've done a quick search on google and it seems to divide opinion.

Many thanks, Hal

I got a can of it and used it for a while after I was first diagnosed. I couldn't tell anything one way or the other. I did have an exceptionally speedy recovery however. I think body builders use that stuff, and a lot of amino acids.

best regards and a speedy recovery, lm

Thanks for that Larry, I think I've just lost a bit of confience when it comes to what I ingest and what harm it can do.

Stupidly I've spent yrs with ill health and only just been diagnosed (didn't fit the regular symptoms), I'm eager to make a recovery but worried I may make matters worse by not being patient.

I guess, give it a go and hope for the best, Hal

I have been using glutamine for the last few months. Recently tried to back off some of the supplements including glutamine, and found that GI symptoms increased again. So, I'm back to taking it twice a day. I do think it helps, and in complete contrast with Larry Mac, I do not seem to be on the speedy recovery track. I'm in month 8 of gluten-free and still having some symptoms (although things overall are much MUCH better than last spring/summer).

I think it's worth a trial to see if it helps you.

I'm on L-glutamine as well. My gut is improving so I think it has helped. I am over a year gluten free (diagnosed Nov 07) and I'm taking quite a long time to heal. My anemia has resolved but my ferritin is still way too low (13 up from 9 in april). I have discovered other food intolerances (all legumes, all nightshades and carregeenan) and going off of those foods have made quite a difference in how I feel. I also have adrenal fatigue, so I'm on support for that. It took a few weeks on those supplements and then I noticed an increase in my energy. This recovery, for me, has been very slow but still recovering. I need to remind myself just how sick I had been, so that I don't get overwhelmed with still not being 100% well yet. I did go undiagnosed for 32 years, so my road to health has been a bit rocky.

Hey thanks for this info. I'm going to see my Dr. tomorrow and will ask her about this. I'm hyper sensitive and would love anything that can help in recovery.

I tried L-glutamine for about a month, and it didn't seem to make any difference. My B12 was a bit low, and I had injections of that, which did seem to help with the extreme fatigue I had.

My doctor gave me some of this today so I'm trying it. She says it also helps control sugar cravings and that they give it to their diabetics to help with that. I'm all for less sugar cravings! I'll let you know how it works after I've been on it for awhile.

Yes, I, too, have osteoporosis from years of malabsorption, too.  Thiamine and magnesium are what keep the calcium in place in the bones.  If one is low in magnesium, boron, selenium, zinc, copper, and other trace minerals, ones bone heath can suffer.  We need more than just calcium and Vitamin D for strong bones.  Riboflavin B 2, Folate B 9 and Pyridoxine B 6 also contribute to bone formation and strength.   Have you had your thyroid checked?  The thyroid is important to bone health as well.  The thyroid uses lots of thiamine, so a poorly functioning thyroid will affect bone heath.

That sounds so very likely in my case! I will absolutely ask my doctor on my next bone check coming up in March... Thanks a lot!

Calcium levels as measured in the blood can be quite deceiving as the body will rob calcium from the bones to meet demands for it by other bodily functions. Also, supplementing with calcium can be counterproductive as it tends to raise gut pH and decrease absorption. More often than not, the problem is poor absorption to begin with rather than deficiency of intake amounts in the diet. Calcium needs an acidic environment to be absorbed. This is why so many people on PPIs develop osteoporosis. The PPIs raise gut pH. And some people have high gut PH for other reasons. Low pH equates to a more acidic environment whereas high pH equates to a more basic (less acidic) environment.

Kind thanks for all this valuable information! Since my Folate was/is low and also my Calcium, there IS a chance I am low in B vitamins... My doctor only measured the first two, oh and Zinc as I has twisted her arm and guess what, that was mega low too. So who knows, until I get myself tested properly, what else I am deficient in... I did a hair mineral test recently and it said to avoid All sources of Calcium. But this is confusing for me as my Ca is so low and I have osteoporosis because of this. It is my Adjusted Ca that is on the higher side and shouldn't be. So am not sure why the mineral test showed high Ca (well, it was medium in the test but relative to my lowish Magnesium, also via hair sample, it was high I was told). But anyway, thanks again for the VitB download, I will look into this most certainly!

Hello good afternoon, I was wondering if anyone has ever brought their anti-allergy pills? I have been wanting to use their Cetirizine HCI 10mg. They are called HealthA2Z and distributed by Allegiant Health.I’m also Asthmatic and these allergies are terrible for me but I also want to be sure they don’t have any sort of gluten compound.    I have tried calling them but to no avail. Has anyone ever used them? If so, did you had any problems or no problems at all?    thank you
