I am looking for a good gluten-free Ravioli either cheese or meat or both. Any ideas? I am not interested in making it from scratch I love my son a lot but....... :rolleyes:

It can be frozen or not, I imagine it would have to be which is fine. Has anyone seen or tasted one from a store or a website? He tried Amy's vegetarian lasagna and didn't care for it but he does like her other things.

There used to be ravioli at Dietary Specialities, but I can't connect to either their US Site or their UK site, so I wonder if they went out of business.

Unfortunately, that's all I've ever seen for pre-made ravioli. I've had good luck making lasagna myself, if you didn't want to make ravioli - you could try that. An easy way to do it is to use a large pan, and lots of sauce, and use uncooked noodles, just cover the pan with foil. It makes it a little easier. You could use jarred spagetti sauce, with or without meat. Try mixing the ricotta cheese with parm, spinich, maybe other spices or veggies. Top with shredded cheese.

Or you could cook the lasagna noodles, then "fill them" - roll them up with filling and top with tomato sauce and bake in the oven for a bit.

That sounds like a good idea akua123. I used to love Ravioli and do miss it as well. :P

yeah, I really miss ravioli too. My fave Italian restaurant makes these awesomely huge raviolis, but alas they are not gluten free. One of these days I may get adventurous and attempt to make some from scratch.

Actually making your own isn't that hard. You just need a pasta recipe (OK, I don't have one but I could look one up...)

Then you can take round cookie cutters or a small glass and cut the two pieces, fill them with ricotta and parm or any other combo, and seal with egg white brushed around the edges.

I always thought making your own pasta was a major gourmet affair but it's really pretty simple - if you can make a pie crust, you can make raviolis.

I'll look for a pasta recipe.

My husband likes the Chef Boyardee lasagna mixes that have thick crusts underneath, so I wonder how it would taste to use piecrust and fill it with sauce and cheese? Probably more like Pizza Pockets than ravioli. I need to find a pasta recipe and try to make my own raviolis!

Still looking for a good pasta recipe. I got really good at making my own pasta low carb but used a TON of gluten... <_< So I need to find something else.

Has anyone seen gluten-free or rice pasta shells? The big kind? That would be a lot like ravioli without the work, even easier I think than rolling up lasagne noodles (though that's a really good one, too). Still more work than tossing some ravioli in some boiling water but so good, worth the work.

Think I'll try some experimenting tonight (husband has band practice tonight so that means I can play around in the kitchen all evening with no demands on dinner... :D )

If we could figure out how to make them, perhaps we could also make them in advance and freeze them. Has anyone tried canning anything like this? I like to make up a large kettle of my favorite beef stew and can it in pint jars for "instant" food. I am at home, I really need to get my act together and start experimenting more in my kitchen!

      oh that's interesting... it's hard to say for sure but it has *seemed* like oats might be causing me some vague issues in the past few months. It's odd that I never really connect specific symptoms to foods, it's more of an all over feeling of unwellness after  eating them.  If it happens a few times after eating the same foods- I cut back or avoid them. for this reason I avoid dairy and eggs.  So far this has worked well for me.  oh, I have some of Bob's Red Mill Mighty Tasty Hot cereal and I love it! it's hard to find but I will be looking for more.  for the next few weeks I'm going to be concentrating on whole fresh fruits and veggies and beans and nuts and seeds. I'll have to find out if grains are truly necessary in our diet. I buy brown rice pasta but only eat that maybe once a month at most. Never liked quinoa. And all the other exotic sounding grains seem to be time consuming to prepare. Something to look at later. I love beans and to me they provide the heft and calories that make me feel full for a lot longer than a big bowl of broccoli or other veggies. I can't even tolerate the plant milks right now.  I have reached out to the endo for guidance regarding calcium intake - she wants me to consume 1000mgs from food daily and I'm not able to get to more than 600mgs right now.  not supposed to use a supplement until after my next round of testing for hyperparathyroidism.   thanks again- you seem to know quite a bit about celiac.

      Welcome to the celiac.com community, @SilkieFairy! You could also have NCGS (Non Celiac Gluten Sensitivity) as opposed to celiac disease. They share many of the same symptoms, especially the GI ones. There is no test for NCGS. Celiac disease must first be ruled out.
