I had a blood test done two weeks ago and last Thursday called in for my lab results. I talked to a nurse (I believe) and she rattled off a bunch of information and I tried to record some of what she was saying.

First off, she said I was anemic. My number was 9.6 which was 2.5 points low. She said I needed to take a multi vitamin.

Other letters and numbers she rattled off were:

TG ABIGG........

IgG and IgA, normal is 10 (high) and better would be 7. Mine was 38.

Again IgG and IgA - active. Normal is below 5 and mine was 92.

I'm fairly sure I did not write this down correctly (the numbers are correct) because it was like writing down advanced math equations or Latin phrases. I just wrote.

If you can make sense of this, I'd love to know what this means. I have an appointment with a GI on the 19th of this month. I am in the military system so getting answers is difficult and we just have to go with the flow. I will just wait to see what happens at this appointment.

Thanks so much!

Karen

It means you are producing antibodies to gluten...its a little confusing based on the reports. Your GI will be able to go over the results with you in more detail. Anemia is common among people with Celiac.

Do not go gluten free until after your appointment and you have completed all testing. Your doctor will probably want to do a biopsy to confirm.

Thanks for the reply. Do these numbers reveal *how* much of a reaction I have? Do they reveal the severity or mildness of the problem

On a different note, why can't I see this topic in the forum. When I posted it, it posted but I can't see it in the forum. I only knew there was an answer because it showed as the most current topic on the main forum: Celiac Disease and Gluten-Free Forum. Odd.

You can always click on your own name to find your own posts and topics.

Or, you can click on the forum (Pre-Diagnosis) and look for it. The threads will be in order of last reply, once the original (first) post is pinned (pinned = reviewed by moderator, and pinned. Prevents spam, etc).

Or, if there are new responses "View new topics"

----------------------------------

Its hard to tell which tests were run by what you wrote and what the scores are.

None of the tests really can tell *how* much of a reaction you have. A higher score does not necessarily equate with more symptoms, or more damage.

BTW, we've done other articles on this topic that I wanted to share here (not to condone smoking!):

Hi everyone  This has been a crazy year so far... How many people actually get entire sensory overload from gluten or something similar ?  My jaw is going nuts ..and that nerve is affecting my upper back and so on ...  Bones even hurt.  Brain fog. Etc  I had eggs seemed fine.   Then my aid cooked a chicken stir fry in the microwave because my food order shorted a couple key items .   I was so hungry but I noticed light breading and some ingredients with SOY !!! Why are we suffering with soy ? This triggered a sensitivity to bananas and gluten-free yogurt it seems like it's a cycle that it goes on.  The tiniest amount of something gets me I'm guessing the tiny bit of breading that I took one tiny nibble of ...yikes ..im cringing from it .. Feels like my stomach is going to explode yet still very hungry 😔  How long does this last?! Thank you so much

This is an older article, but may be helpful.

I have had orthodontic work done. The 3M invisalign material was no problem. BUT my retainers are another matter. They seemed okay for a few months. Now, however, they cause a burning sensation on my tongue, gums and insides of my lips. The burning sensation is now spreading to my throat. I notice it when I breathe. This is annoying and interferes with my enjoyment of eating. I am visiting with my provider tomorrow. We'll see where this goes from here.

Exactly which blood tests were done? There are a few different ones and some docs don't do them all. Also, your results and reference ranges for each?
