Quest Acknowledges Errors In Vitamin D Tests Ny Times

Just FYI, if you have had Vitamin D levels tested by Quest over the last couple of years they may have been incorrect results. This link to the NY Times article explains that not all their labs followed proper procedures, and materials were not reliable. They say they have corrected the problems now. The article is from 7-Jan-09. So in theory test results after that date would be ok.

The article is much longer, I just pasted in a snippet from the headline below. They say that some of the results were high, but some were also low. Quest mailed notices to doctors whose patients may have received inaccurate results, and they are doing free re-testing for them. The article is worth a read.

I saw this article back in Jan and it made me pretty upset. I had my vit d checked last April through Quest, and it came back "perfect." This year I had it redone and it was on the low side of normal.

In hindsight, I should've been taking vit d last year, which would have helped me feel much better a lot faster. I'm sure that last year it would have been pretty low.

Thanks Scott. They are gluten-free but cross contaminated.

Hi there @MCAyr I have a small umbilical hernia which came about during my second pregnancy.   I can just about see it, and feel it, when I stand or sit, but it is far less noticeable when I lie down.  I always know when I am putting on weight because I can get pain and burning near the site, funnily enough not on the hernia itself but either side!  I would imagine bloating could cause the same effect as weight gain. In my case I don't think it is my bowel protruding but a bit of fat  - sorry,  I realise this isn't painting a very pretty picture.  But in truth it is scarcely noticeable.  It has never really got bigger in size. I was rather hoping that it could be operated on but here in the UK they don't seem to operate on every hernia anymore.  My GP isn't remotely worried about it. In a way, I should be thankful - it is like an early warning system that I need to go on a diet! Cristiana

The hernia description would likely be unrelated to celiac disease, but you'd need to get it checked out by your doctor to be sure it's a hernia.
