:o

Hello all. My name is Christine. I am 27, was diagnosed with Celiac in 2001. I am SO diligent and careful on the diet from day 1.

I lost my first daughter at full term last April and am pregnant with my second baby and due in September. I am so scared for obvious reasons.

I am always SO careful, but a friend just bought me a cookie and was so excited for me to try it and told me that it said "gluten free"! I took one bite and looked at the package and realized it is "wheat free" but not "gluten free"!!! :( The second ingredient is barley flour!!!!!!!!!!!! I called the company and they verified that it contains gluten.

I am now SO terrified. I can't lose another baby, someone please tell me an accidental glutening is okay during pregnancy.

Christine honey, relax :) A slip like this won't cause you to lose your baby.

There are many of us who had perfectly normal pregnancies/healthy children while having symptoms, but going undiagnosed. I remember trying to quell my "morning sickness" with saltines! I could never understand why they didn't seem to help ;)

Just take good care of yourself, as you have been--and I hope the effects of the cookie don't last long. :)

I am so sorry for the loss of your first. It is understandable that you would be anxious but I do agree with Patti. I hope your reaction to the cookie doesn't last too long and try to keep in mind that just a glutening alone can sometimes cause our anxiety levels to shoot to the roof for a couple of days. You might also want to talk with your OB/GYN about this. They might be able to set your mind at ease.

I think your anxiety is worse for your health than that cookie. I am also pregnant and my ob (who is familiar with celiac disease) said accidentally ingesting gluten is just going to harm me (i.e. digestive distress etc.) and not the baby. Continuously eating gluten will harm the baby's growth due to the fact you won't absorb nutrients. Talk to your doctor to ease your fears. Anxiety and stress is hard on the body so try to relax and congrats :)

This treatment looks promising. Its aim is to provoke immune tolerance of gluten, possibly curing the disease. It passed the phase 2 trial with flying colours, and I came across a post on Reddit by one of the study volunteers. Apparently, the results were good enough that the company is applying for fast track approval.  Anokion Announces Positive Symptom Data from its Phase 2 Trial Evaluating KAN-101 for the Treatment of Celiac Disease https://www.reddit.com/r/Celiac/comments/1krx2wh/kan_101_trial_put_on_hold/

BTW, we've done other articles on this topic that I wanted to share here (not to condone smoking!):

Hi everyone  This has been a crazy year so far... How many people actually get entire sensory overload from gluten or something similar ?  My jaw is going nuts ..and that nerve is affecting my upper back and so on ...  Bones even hurt.  Brain fog. Etc  I had eggs seemed fine.   Then my aid cooked a chicken stir fry in the microwave because my food order shorted a couple key items .   I was so hungry but I noticed light breading and some ingredients with SOY !!! Why are we suffering with soy ? This triggered a sensitivity to bananas and gluten-free yogurt it seems like it's a cycle that it goes on.  The tiniest amount of something gets me I'm guessing the tiny bit of breading that I took one tiny nibble of ...yikes ..im cringing from it .. Feels like my stomach is going to explode yet still very hungry 😔  How long does this last?! Thank you so much

I have had orthodontic work done. The 3M invisalign material was no problem. BUT my retainers are another matter. They seemed okay for a few months. Now, however, they cause a burning sensation on my tongue, gums and insides of my lips. The burning sensation is now spreading to my throat. I notice it when I breathe. This is annoying and interferes with my enjoyment of eating. I am visiting with my provider tomorrow. We'll see where this goes from here.
