Rash On Baby's Back?

My son has not been diagnosed with celiac, but I am working on getting us both diagnosed. He is 20 months old (I guess he's considered a toddler, but he's still my baby) :)

Anyway, he usually has a horrible rash on his toosh and up the back from his toosh that we are used to seeing that I suspect is related to gluten and diarrhea. But, after I gave him a bath tonight I noticed a rash accross the back of his shoulders and neck and a few specs on his tummy. It's not as bad as his butt rash, but I wanted to hear if any mom's with kids had rashy type problems before their kids went gluten free? It looks a lot like a general skin rash, nothing near DH, etc. Can you share with me? I think it'll help when we go to the pediatrician. Also, any other symptoms I might not relate that you noticed in your child besides the failure to thrive, typical symptoms? Thanks so much! Sure wish he could talk to me and tell me how he's feeling!

My twin girls who are 9 would always, for at least 2 years, want me to scratch their back constantly. On the top of their backs and down almost half they would have this rash. It was more 'invasive" looking that a typical heat rash and would really itch them. We tried things like changing shampoos, changing soaps, new laundry products but nothing would help. I would put hydrocortisone cream on the rash to help with the itching but that didn't help much. I would have to cut out all the tags on their clothes.

Guess what? They have been gluten free for almost 10 weeks and no more itchy back rash!! It just had to be related to gluten. Their skin is smooth and clear now.

But they still want mom to scratch their backs! :):)

My little guy had it on the back of his neck and shoulders, down to the middle of his back. He was constantly itching also. We have been gluten free for 5 weeks and his rash is almost completely gone and he doesn't itch it anymore!

I don't think any apps are up to date, which is exactly why this happened to you. Most of the data in such apps is years old, and it doesn't get updated in real time. Ultimately there is no substitution for learning to read labels. The following two lists are very helpful for anyone who is gluten sensitive and needs to avoid gluten when shopping. It's very important to learn to read labels and understand sources of hidden gluten, and to know some general information about product labelling--for example in the USA if wheat is a possible allergen it must be declared on a product's ingredient label like this: Allergens: Wheat.

What is the best gluten free scanner app? I have the "gluten-free Scanner" app. I scanned an almond joy and it says it contains gluten when the package is labeled gluten free

Certainly, it would b wise to have a gene test done if your physician is open to it as it would provide some more data to understand what's going on. But keep in mind that the genetic test for celiac disease cannot be used as to diagnose celiac disease, only to establish the potential to develop active celiac disease. About 40% of the general population possess one or both of the primary genes known to be associated with the development of active celiac disease but only about 1% of the population actually develop active celiac disease. So, the gene test is an effective "rule out" tool but not an effective diagnostic tool.

So you would be good with the diagnosis and not worry to check genetics etc etc? Appreciate your words!
