Hi there, I can't say for certain because i'm not a dr. But it sounds like it to me. If you will read up on the symptoms, you will definitley see.

Now, you have a choice to make.

Do you try to go gluten free first or try to get a diagnosis? That is the hard part because a lot of dr's do not believe Celiac exists and also sometimes the tests will come up negative. Once you go gluten free and your health improves and you want a dx, then you will have to go back to eating gluten. About 2 peices of bread a day for at least 6 weeks for the tests to show positive. Kind of a catch 22.

A lot of people go gluten free and to say to heck with the tests because once you go gluten free and realize that was what was wrong all along you will not want to make yourself sick again ever.

Just my opinion. But if I were you, I would go gluten free immediately.

Yes If i was you i would go gluten free immediately too. just a feeling but your health sounds really bad. Gluten robs your body of vital nutrients.

Celiac is diagnosed first by a blood test, then you go for a biopsy to see if you have damage to your inners.

If i was you I would go to the Dr today and get the celiac blood test done. Once you have had the test then go gluten free. At least you will know if you have the markers, and they may get you for a biopsy in time to see if you have damage to your inners, so that way you may be both diagnosis and effects of the diet. It will take you a while to get the diet right too. :-)

A lot of us dont get a diagnosis but know for 100% certain gluten is bad for us, celiac or not. I felt better within 4 days of the diet, i was diagnosed with arthritis in my thumbs disappeared within the same time of gluten free.

Good luck

I understand your frustration of going from dr to dr only to get no relief or diagnosis. Many people here have the same experience. There is a thread in the "doctors" section of these boards called "recommend a dr in your state" that you may be able to find a dr familiar with celiac. I went to about 12 different GI specialists, and most disregarded my joint and muscle pain and told me IBS. I do think it's good to at least attempt, as frustrating as it is (and believe me I left many appointments in tears) to try to get a blood test. Mine was negative, too, but if you find a good dr., they will be able to assess all of your symptoms and help you get some relief. Many have vitamin deficiencies that need to be treated, and good dr.can help with that (this can cause pain and numbness in joints and muscles). I would look around on here and print out some info to take with you. I think we all know how we feel and need to be persistent in guiding a dr to accurate testing. Best of luck, hope you feel better soon!

They have not done that yet.   We are looking at some other treatments to help. And you are correct.  The tickborne illness has been a wild ride.  Our whole family has been battling different tickborne illnesses.  Its expensive and exhausting.

I cannot tolerate it at all - triggers burning and nausea, ditto aspirin.  Here in the UK I take Paracetamol.

For back pain, I take a combination of Cobalamine B12, Pyridoxine B 6, and Thiamine B 1 (in the form Benfotiamine), which have an analgesic effect.  These three B vitamins together work way better than those over the counter pain relievers.  Theses are water soluble B vitamins that are easily excreted via the kidneys if not needed.  Thiamine will also help the nausea. @stephaniekl, welcome to the forum, Is your daughter taking any nutritional supplements?   Weight loss and failure to thrive are two symptoms of thiamine insufficiency.  Thiamine deficiency symptoms are not recognized as such by doctors.   I experienced similar symptoms when I became malnourished.  Thiamine deficiency symptoms can become worse quickly, and can affect one emotionally and mentally.  Although blood tests for thiamine aren't accurate, do have your daughter checked for nutritional deficiencies.  Thiamine B 1 works with the other B vitamins and magnesium.  Thiamine and Niacin B 3 help improve Gerd.  All the B vitamins are frequently low due to malabsorption.  Vitamin D will help calm the immune system.  Thiamine helps the immune system fight off viruses like those tick borne illnesses.   Thiamine Mononitrate, which is in many vitamin supplements, is not bioavailable.  I was taking a multivitamin containing thiamine mononitrate and still became deficient in thiamine. Thiamine in the form Benfotiamine has been shown to promote intestinal healing.  A form called TTFD (tetrahydrofurfuryl disulfide) is also excellent for correcting thiamine deficiency.  A combination of Thiamine, Cobalamine B12, and Pyridoxine B 6 has analgesic properties.  I take it for back pain.   Keep us posted on your progress! Has prednisone or some other systemic steroid been tried that might quiet her immune system down for a while? I have two acquaintances with Lyme's disease. It is a wicked condition that has long fingers.
