Is This Common Prior To Diagnosis?

My sister-in-law just lost her teaching job (private school) due to being sick so much so far this year. She's always been one to get sick and stay sick easily. But this time I'm wondering if she's not a Celiac. She says she and her doctor talked about it but she's vomiting. She's lost 15-20 lbs (she cannot afford to lose) because of vomiting and diarrhea. She has "eliminated refined sugars and 'most' grains" she says. I know everyone tends to have their own experiences but with some commonalities. I am gluten-intolerant, not a diagnosed Celiac and that's not been my experience. Did any of you have the vomiting? She also has the extreme fatigue and acheyness of joints. Anyone?

I didn't have vomiting but my daughter did. Fatigue and painful joints are not uncommon. IMHO her doctor should be doing more than just 'talking to her' about it. She needs to be tested and then when testing is finished she should give the diet a strict try no matter what the results.

I had the vomiting part, and so did my son - along with the volatile gut, fatigue, joint pain (and more). As mentioned above, just eliminating grains wouldn't be enough if she's got celiac disease - gluten is present in so many things and there's also cross contamination that could be coming into play.

If they're going to test her, they should do it BEFORE she completely eliminates gluten from her diet.

Interesting, when I suffered for a few months with ectopics I noticed that carbohydrates would cause indigestion and bloating in my stomach, then that would lead to my heart skipping beats, and I could feel it in my throat, it was very unsettling.  My last serious bout of this was after eating a Muller Rice Pudding for breakfast.   I happened to be wearing a 48 hour halter at the time and cardiology picked it up, but they weren't worried about what they saw. There was some British doctor who'd made some videos on the Vagus nerve that I remember watching at the time which made sense of what I was experiencing, there did seem to be some sort of connection.

I asked my cardiologist about stopping vitamins.  He said his tests account for all detectable vitamins from sources other than food.  I only need to stop them for a couple of days.  He has me keep records of meds and vitamins I've ingested over the past 10 days and prior and he does his calculations.

Reply to treats I try and eat to bring up the glucose. Sometime I get up 3 times a night and eat something. I don't think food is the issue. A lot of the food they say should help doesn't.  Many mornings my level is 59 and I feel sick, sometimes for hours. It has been recommended I go to an Endocrinologist.
