Not Dealing Well At All!

Hey everyone. I had one heck of a night! If it wasn't enough that both of my kids came down sick, I come home from the ER with a shiny new diagnosis. My daughter started running a temp when she came home on wednesday night, so I kept her home from school on thursday. Friday morning, still had the temp and coughing with leg pain. I took her to the doctor. They checked her for the flu(yikes!!!). I was scared to death that she was going to have it. That would be horrible for me to get while on 50mg Prednisone. I was afriad I would end up in the hospital. Her swabs came back negative, thank God! So, we just went about having a normal relaxing night. Kids were in bed by 9. My boyfriend was out of the house for a bit playing cards. So I got in my recliner after taking my nightly meds and eating at about 9:30p. I had been sitting there at rest for almost two hours, when my heart literally started jumping out of my chest. I could sit and watch to count my pulse. I thought it was just anxiety. So, I just sat there and took deep breathes. After five minutes and it still pounding, I decided I needed to go to the ER. I went and told them what was going on. They checked me in, did an EKG, and so on. After some IV fluids and Ativan, it finally started calming down. Calming down to them though was 117/70. My blood pressure usually runs about 90/52, techinally hypotension caused by my Celiac Disease and perniscious anemia. That inturn would make that a very high blood pressure for me. They diagnosed me with SVT supraventricular tachycardia and prescribed me Metroprolol to regulate my heart. I feel horrible today. I definitly have whatever bug the kids have and my chest hurts. Has anyone else been diagnosed with this? Is it just complications of my prednisone? I know that I am strictly gluten free. It's hard for me right now because I don't know anyone that is or has been in the kind of situation that I am in. My boyfriend tries to understand, but he comes from the old thinking that if it's not killing you your ok. How do I get him to understand the severity of the situation at hand? I'm sure he is not dealing well with the fact that his young girlfriend is very sick. I just don't know where else to turn. I need some support, someone that understands.

how long have you been on the prednisone?,l when I take it it's only for 5 days at a time

I've been at 50 mg a day for two weeks. It's for treatment of my autoimmune hepatitis. I am supposed to take 50 mg a day for one more week then i step down to 40mg a day for two weeks, then 30mg two weeks, until i hopefully can be on just 10 mg a day to control.

      It sounds like your gastroenterologist is becoming increasingly confident that celiac disease is the likely diagnosis based on both your older and newer lab results. Her suggestion to call each Monday for possible cancellations is actually a great strategy—especially given how long the wait is until your August 29th appointment. It’s also a good sign that she’s advocating for you to be seen sooner, which shows she’s taking your case seriously. The fact that some labs might not have been drawn yet due to overlap with your functional health doctor’s upcoming testing adds a layer of confusion, but that’s unfortunately common when multiple providers are involved.       Thanks for sharing that film, @trents.  I am not sure how I missed that film as I see it is a few years old, but it is very good.  I think you should be fine if you take your own packed lunch and eat it from your own lunchbox etc.  Might be worth doing a lunchtime recce to see how cramped the room is before making a decision - for all you know, there may be other people  there who don't eat gluten?

      The GI doc messaged me this afternoon that she believes that the new blood work added to the old is definitely  looking like a celiac diagnosis is in my future.  She wants to me to call into scheduling each Monday to see if I can get my August 29th appointment moved up due to cancellations.  I have never had a doctor recommend that.  She also said there were additional labs that she requested still out that have not come back yet; so, they may have been missed drawing those since the functional health doctor has a whole slew of labs that I am suppose to be waiting until August 27th to do. I am still waiting to hear on whether or not she will allow me to do pill prep versus the typical...

      Well, I've made if from the pre-diagnosis forum to here!  I've been diagnosed with "latent" or "potential" celiac and my doctor has suggested me to go gluten-free before my appointment with him in October (first available, LOL).  My ttg-iga was 152, my EMA was positive, I have the gene, but my biopsy was negative (and he took 12 samples), so it makes sense to go gluten free to see if I improve. I know the basics - I can find lists of things to avoid, I know about hidden dangers, etc. all of that.  Where I'm struggling is just STARTING.  I need to go shopping and stock up on some staples.  My goal is to not try to find gluten-free alternatives, but to focus on naturally gluten-free foods like...

It sounds like your GI is taking a very thorough approach, which is reassuring given your complex symptoms and history. The confusion around your different tissue transglutaminase (tTG) antibody results is understandable.
