Became Intollerant To Rice?

Anyone out there have a child on a gluten free diet who has now become unable to eat rice? My son has been on the gluten free diet for a year and we've still been dealing with many issues of nausea, heavy head, excess gas, etc. We've had so many tests run and the Celiac seems to be under control, and the doctor has no clue what's still causing the symptoms. He seems to obviously be reacting to something he's still eating. I took him off rice for three days last week, and all rice-based products, just to see. He had three days of no symptoms. I'm going to continue this for a week and see if the symptoms stay away. Anyone else have that issue? I have heard that they can become intollerant to a food that they eat too much of.

I had to go off of it myself. I can have it in small amounts, but too much of it, and I feel like I've had gluten! :) Can't tell you why, can only say I feel better when I have it in small doses.

Yep, rice is on my no-no list also. It really sucks as rice is a major alternative to the wheat in the gluten-free stuff! Like the previous poster, I can have a little of it once in awhile. 3 pieces of tapioca bread (which has rice flour in it) is ok, but 4 puts me over the top. Sorry to hear about your little one. It's hard enough when you are old like me, kids should get to enjoy.

That means the normal range (i.e. not celiac disease) would be a result less than 14.99.  Your result is WAY above that. Some gastroenterologists would diagnose that as celiac disease even without a confirming biopsy because it is more than ten times the top of the normal range.

Hi everyone. Back in 2022 I had blood work drawn for iga ext gliadin. Since then I’ve developed worse stomach issues and all other health issues. My doctor just said cut out gluten. He did no further testing. Please see my test results attached. I just need some direction cause I feel so ill and the stomach pain is becoming worse. Can this test show indications for other gastrointestinal diseases?

Thank you. These were the results TTG ABS NUMERICAL: > 250.0 U/mL [< 14.99]  Really don’t understand the results!

Clearly from what you've said the info on Dailymed is much more up to date than the other site, which hasn't been updated since 2017. The fact that some companies might be repackaging drugs does not mean the info on the ingredients is not correct.

To evaluate the TTG antibody result we’d need to know the normal range for that lab.  Labs don’t all use the same units.  However, based on any normal ranges that I’ve seen and the listed result being greater than a number rather than a specific number, I’d say yes, that is high! Higher than the range where the test can give a quantitative result. You got good advice not to change your diet yet.  If you went gluten free your intestines would start to heal, confusing any further testing,
