Northern California Doctors

Hi, I'm new to the site and am looking for suggestions regarding doctors in Northern California (Sacramento area preferably, or San Francisco Bay area). I searched the archives and the only name I saw come up was Jeffrey Aron in San Francisco. So, he is on my list as a possibility. Has anyone else had (or heard of) a good experience with a doc in this region? I'm at the beginning of the process, suspicious of a few symptoms, and want to work with someone who, from the beginning, will take seriously the possibility that they might add up to celiac disease. I also would like it to be someone who has guided others through the testing in a reasonable way. Thanks for any thoughts!

I am assuming it is a family practitioner that you are looking for? My daughter sees a pediatic GI specialist named Dr. Yinka Davies. She has an office in Sacramento and Roseville with Sutter Medical Group. I am sure she could get you in touch with a family Dr. that is also familiar with testing. She has gotten us in touch with a few families that also have been recently diagnosed, and I know she attended a conference in Washington last year on the subject. She seems to have a lot of insight and have a lot of contacts. Just an idea! Good luck!

You might want to get in touch with a local support group - I know there is one in Carmichael, maybe Sacramento too. I live in Chico - a little farther away than I'd want to drive for a support group so I haven't gone. But they might have recommendations...

Hello! I'm newly celiac diagnosed (3/05), have an AWESOME gastroenterologist here in Grass Valley...........Dr. Aslam Godil, phone (530) 273-3377. He's very thorough and a good listener. Good luck!

Good to know! I may check in with him. The one GI in Chico is a hard ass (from what I've heard) and doesn't believe anything is a problem with anyone unless they are dying. I have no desire to waste money on that. I also heard he is fairly insulting. Don't know firsthand but that's enough to make me not care to persue the elusive appointment with him...

Does anyone have personal experience with the celiac clinic at Stanford? I love my family practice doctor in San Francisco, but I think I need to talk with a specialist.

This treatment looks promising. Its aim is to provoke immune tolerance of gluten, possibly curing the disease. It passed the phase 2 trial with flying colours, and I came across a post on Reddit by one of the study volunteers. Apparently, the results were good enough that the company is applying for fast track approval.  Anokion Announces Positive Symptom Data from its Phase 2 Trial Evaluating KAN-101 for the Treatment of Celiac Disease https://www.reddit.com/r/Celiac/comments/1krx2wh/kan_101_trial_put_on_hold/

BTW, we've done other articles on this topic that I wanted to share here (not to condone smoking!):

Hi everyone  This has been a crazy year so far... How many people actually get entire sensory overload from gluten or something similar ?  My jaw is going nuts ..and that nerve is affecting my upper back and so on ...  Bones even hurt.  Brain fog. Etc  I had eggs seemed fine.   Then my aid cooked a chicken stir fry in the microwave because my food order shorted a couple key items .   I was so hungry but I noticed light breading and some ingredients with SOY !!! Why are we suffering with soy ? This triggered a sensitivity to bananas and gluten-free yogurt it seems like it's a cycle that it goes on.  The tiniest amount of something gets me I'm guessing the tiny bit of breading that I took one tiny nibble of ...yikes ..im cringing from it .. Feels like my stomach is going to explode yet still very hungry 😔  How long does this last?! Thank you so much

I have had orthodontic work done. The 3M invisalign material was no problem. BUT my retainers are another matter. They seemed okay for a few months. Now, however, they cause a burning sensation on my tongue, gums and insides of my lips. The burning sensation is now spreading to my throat. I notice it when I breathe. This is annoying and interferes with my enjoyment of eating. I am visiting with my provider tomorrow. We'll see where this goes from here.
