Waiting For Test Results.....

In 1987, at age 18, doctors discovered a large (size of my fist) tumor in place of my thyroid. They did biopsies and opted to remove the thyroid completely. The diagnosis was Hoshimotos. Within a year I was having horrible stomach issues and went through multiple barium tests to be told I had a hyetal hernia and GERD. I am now in my early 40s and have been suffering from difficulty swallowing (especially at night), major stomach cramping, constipation (it can be five to six days), diarreha, major gas, itchy skin (especially after a warm shower), and depression. The despression I have attributed to mostly my being unemployed for so long. But now I am not so sure. A couple of weeks ago, the specialist I went to in regards to the digestive issues scheduled me for a colonoscopy and endoscopy. Biopsies on the endoscopy came back unremarkable. But the colonoscopy came back with damage. SO the doctor called for more definitvie bloodwork tests. The lab tech taking my blood directed me to this site. As I read all the symptoms and peoples issues, I am scared to think that this could finally be the correct diagnosis! Has anyone been living with these issues for nearly 22 years? And what do could it be if the blood tests come back negative? And what do I do about the thyroid medication I take? The brand I take has glucose aparently. Do they make gluten free thyroid medication?

Thanks for all the help.

Hi MrsB: I believe I can answer one of your questions. Glucose is a sugar, so it is safe for Celiacs or people with gluten intolerance.

Good luck with everything, hope they get it figured out quickly so you feel better soon.

I meant to say the brand of Thyroid I take has GLUTEN.....not glucose. Just wondering if any one else has found a thyroid medication without Gluten. THANKS!

Which brand are you taking that has gluten in it?

Don't be scared. This is one of the best diseases you can have! It's 100% curable with diet. If you're gluten-sensitive, going off gluten totally changes your life for the better.

I’m having this type of MRI this afternoon,  What specifically do you want to know?  From what I’ve read, not all facilities use the same drink prep.

Hi I've been told I need a MRI on my bowels , I was booked for a colonoscopy, but because of my sever back issues and trapped nerve it can't be done , the nurse told me I will have to have a manitol drink a hour before the scan , I'm just a bit worried has I have issues with sweeteners like even a little,  I get a weird throat and ears and I've read it is a similar substance , not sure if anyone has had one of these scans or could give me some advise on the drink prep thanks in advance 😄

Hi all ! Can a celiac attack be so intense that it causes your entire body to work in reverse? Meaning really bad pain,  neuropathy and muscle,  jaw pain,  the stomach issues , Horrible anxiety and confusion??  I had a Tums and you would think I ate poison. My jaw and stomach did not like it . Not the norm for me. Things that are simple are just out of control. Anyone ever have this happen??  I'm trying to figure out what I ate or did to bring on a celiac like attack. I had an idea before but yesterday I didn't have any gluten unless it was in a medication ?! Any positive suggestions ??  Thank you

The following two lists are very helpful for anyone who is gluten sensitive and needs to avoid gluten when shopping. It's very important to learn to read labels and understand sources of hidden gluten, and to know some general information about product labelling--for example in the USA if wheat is a possible allergen it must be declared on a product's ingredient label like this: Allergens: Wheat.
