Tried Using The Search Function

I have tried several times to use the search function instead of creating a new post for something I know is already out there. I cannot get it to narrow the search appropriately. For instance, I was looking for the post on "you could be a celiac if" and I tried that phrase. I got a huge number of pages and this specific post was many pages into the search results. I also tried to get to a post from several weeks ago on what to do if your bread comes out with a flat top. I tried searching multiple ways, always got the same 53 pages, and even more than ten pages in I still had not found that post. There were all kinds of other, non-related, items shown in the first several pages. What am I doing wrong?

The "You might be celiac if" thread is in the Gab room so just click on Gab room and it should show up if you scroll down.

For searching...you may need to click most recent first. I haven't used the search engine alot on here so someone else *cough* celiac3270 *cough* may be able to help you with that part more.

Thanks, Kaiti :D

Yeah, when you go to search, you can click "More Options" to narrow it down by username, date, etc. Also, the most valuable piece of information with the search is how to narrow it down. Go to search, then under where you put in the words you want to search for there's a link called "Advanced Usage Help." Click on that--it explains it all. If you want to search for you must be celiac if, but don't want to get posts that just mention "celiac" or "you", put a plus sign in front of the phrases that MUST be in that post for it to appear as a result. So if you know that "if" is in it and celiac is in it, put a plus in front of both and they can only give you results that have both those words: you might be +celiac +if. I copied the explanation below:

Use Means

apple banana Find posts that contain at least one of these words

+apple +juice Find posts with both words

+apple -juice Find posts with 'apple' but not 'juice'

apple* Find posts with 'apple' and/or 'applesauce'

"Some Words" Find posts with the phrase 'some words of wisdom', 'some words' but not 'some noise words'

Hey everyone! :)

Donna, thanks for asking about this topic...I've wondered the same thing myself.

celiac3270, you did an excellent job explaining it too!

No more sorting through 30 pages to find an old topic :D

Take Care,

Julie (who knows little about cooking, and even less about computers) :P

Hey, it's hard to find :D I found I was still doing it the old way until just a few months ago--and I consider myself to be computer-literate.

Thanks for the detailed explanation, celiac3270. As usual, you are right on top of things. I'll give it another try and see how well I do with the new info.

Hello, I was very stick,  with flu like symptoms, but my virus panel came back negative and we couldn’t figure out what’s going on. The doctor then added a celiac panel.  Has anyone ever had such a dramatic change?  What are the odds this is true celiac I am going to have an endoscopy, but it’s expensive and I just feel like why can’t the labs be enough?

Eating out in general is full of risks, but this article may help:

This kind of question is always difficult to give a definitive answer to because of so many variables. One such variable is the sensitivity of the individual celiac to small amounts of gluten cross contamination. An amount that causes a reaction in one celiac many not in another, or at least not be discernable which, of course, does not exactly equate to being "safe".

I don't live in the US, but based on this thread, I wouldn't risk it:   https://www.reddit.com/r/glutenfree/comments/1n2ehw8/cracker_barrel/   This app is helpful: https://www.findmeglutenfree.com/

I see that Cracker Barrel restaurants have a gluten free menu (not all locations, but one confirmed that they do). I was wondering if it is safe for my 5 year old son with celiac disease?
