Growth Spurt?

My 10 year old son was diagnosed with celiac 2 weeks ago. I was wondering from other parents out there what they noticed with regards to growth spurts - was it sudden and did most parents really see a change in weight / height?

My 4 yr. old was diagnosed 3 mo. ago. He has gained about 3 lb. so far!

imo going gluten-free immediately starts to put your system back in natural working order. I say this because my 7 yr old was on the opposite end of the charts with celiac disease. She has been in the 95th -98th percentile for wt and ht for over 2 years now and she has been gluten-free about 2 months and has finally leveled out with no weight gain. We were under the "healthy lifestyle plan" with our pedi before diagnosis. According to our GI it depends on the damage done to the Villi, for how long till you see improvement.

My son gained 3lbs and almost 3in in height in less than 3 months. He has kind of leveled off since then though but he is at least back on the charts for both height and weight.

My daughter was diagnosed at 9. She wasn't underweight, but she was undertall. It took about a year for us to see a clear difference in growth. However, between age 11 and 12 we saw her go from 4'8" to 5'1"!!

Her other symptoms though, such as dark circles under her eyes, skin issues, and sleep issues cleared up within a month!

They may want to also eliminate other possible causes for your symptoms/issues and are doing additional tests.  Here is info about blood tests for celiac disease--if positive an endoscopy where biopsies of your intestinal villi are taken to confirm is the typical follow up.

In the Europe the new protocol for making a celiac disease diagnosis in children is if their tTg-IgA (tissue transglutaminase IgA) levels are 10 times or above the positive level for celiac disease--and you are above that level. According to the latest research, if the blood test results are at certain high levels that range between 5-10 times the reference range for a positive celiac disease diagnosis, it may not be necessary to confirm the results using an endoscopy/biopsy: Blood Test Alone Can Diagnose Celiac Disease in Most Children and Adults TGA-IgA at or Above Five Times Normal Limit in Kids Indicates Celiac Disease in Nearly All Cases No More Biopsies to Diagnose Celiac Disease in Children! May I ask why you've had so many past tTg-IgA tests done, and many of them seem to have been done 3 times during short time intervals?

@JettaGirl, "Coeliac" is the British spelling of "celiac". Same disease.

This may sound ridiculous but is this supposed to say Celiacs? I looked up Coeliacs because you never know, there’s a lot of diseases related to a disease that they come up with similar names for. It’s probably meant to say Celiacs but I just wanted to confirm.

I was told it was to see how much damage has been caused. But just told CT with contrast not any other name for it.
