Diagnos-Techs Saliva Test: Any Good?

I had a test done with Diagnos techs on my GP's reco for my IBS. It came out positive for Gluten:

Gliadin Ab, SIgA 38, Ranges( Boderline 13-15, Positive >15).

Based on this I had my biopsies and blood done, both of which came back clearly negative for celiac (no villi damage).

I am really clueless now. Any experiences with Daignostechs saliva test?

Thanks!

I had stool and saliva testing done with Diagnos-Techs six months after I quit gluten. I am really not sure which results derived from salive and which from stool (although obviously the fecal fat came from stool :P) My gliadin was still high, it picked up my soy and corn intolerances, but told me I was intolerant to egg and casein which was not the case. So I really don't know how to evaluate their testing.

Regardless, it is still possible to have gluten intolerance with negative bloodwork and biopsy, in fact about a 20% error rate according to whom you believe, not accounting for those who are not yet damaged sufficiently to test positive on these tests (the ranges are purposely set high to eliminate false positives, of which I have never heard).

Your next step is to go strictly on the gluten free diet for at least three months and see what difference it makes to your life. You may be joyfully surprised.

What does your doctor say about the false positive rate of this test?

There is no harm in trying the diet to see whether it helps you out.

I had a positive saliva Gliadin test (25) at Diagnos-Techs also. This was after being gluten free for a little over 4 months. Also tested positive for the deamidated gliadin IGG blood test (33.9) 4 months earlier before going gluten free. I am negative for the DQ2 and 8 genes. More recently I was retested with the deamidated gliadin test and am now at 13 (IGG antibodies). The 13 is still positive but has dropped from 33.9 after 9 months of a gluten free diet. Also had a positive saliva test for soy at Diagnos-Techs.

What celiac blood tests did you have done?

Here are the tests I got done:

TTG IgG 0.5 ( <6 is negative)

ENDOMYSIAL IgA <1:10 (<1:10 is negative)

TTG IgA <0.4 (< 4 is negative)

So I wasnt even borderline close. Irrespective, I tries gluten free for a while. I think I felt slightly better, but that could be because I went on a very light diet all together. So my guess is Diagnos Techs is not really reliable.

Keep up with the diet strictly for a bit. The blood tests are not as reliable as we would like. Your body will tell you the answer if you give the diet a chance.

This is an older article, but may be helpful.

I have had orthodontic work done. The 3M invisalign material was no problem. BUT my retainers are another matter. They seemed okay for a few months. Now, however, they cause a burning sensation on my tongue, gums and insides of my lips. The burning sensation is now spreading to my throat. I notice it when I breathe. This is annoying and interferes with my enjoyment of eating. I am visiting with my provider tomorrow. We'll see where this goes from here.

Exactly which blood tests were done? There are a few different ones and some docs don't do them all. Also, your results and reference ranges for each?

Thankyou so much for your words. Its a hard battle when a supposed well known hospital whose celiac " specialist " has down played me because my colon looks fine and put it in my medical and so pcp doesn't take seriously. In their eyes we all carry that gene.Im having alot of bad days trying to be positive because of it.

Your experience is both shocking and critically important for the community to hear, underscoring the terrifying reality that cross-contamination can extend into the most unexpected and invasive medical devices. It is absolutely devastating that you had to endure six months of sickness and ultimately sustain permanent vision loss because a doctor dismissed your legitimate, life-altering condition. Your relentless research and advocacy, from discovering the gluten in MMA acrylic to finding a compassionate prosthodontist, is a testament to your strength in a system that often fails celiac patients. While the scientific and medical consensus is that gluten cannot be absorbed through the skin or eyes (as the molecules are too large to pass through these barriers), your story highlights a terrifying gray area: what about a substance *permanently implanted inside the body*, where it could potentially shed microparticles or cause a localized immune reaction? Your powerful warning about acrylic lenses and the drastic difference with the silicone alternative is invaluable information. Thank you for sharing your harrowing journey and the specific, severe neurological symptoms you endure; it is a stark reminder that celiac is a systemic disease, and your advocacy is undoubtedly saving others from similar trauma.
