Eating Gluten Free In Arkansas!

Sometimes I fantasize that there might be such a thing as a gluten free restaurant!? As a celiac traveller who lives normally in Europe where gluten free eating is more available I was worried headed into the american mid south... hanging out in Memphis Tennessee on Beale street was traumatic. I tried to google ahead of time a place where I could find something gluten free but came up with ZIP! Then after a long explanation on gluten to the girl at the door of one place... the girl brought me the BBQ on a bun! (I will give them the fact they at least showed me the BBQ ingredients) : / (I know, I know, BBQ, but the sauce was gluten free, and really, I considered Lucilles but it was overpriced! )

So, later we headed west to Jonesboro Arkansas where I was happily stunned to find an amazing restaraunt called Pieros (family run) where the owners have not only wheat allergies but also are allergic to soy, milk, and eggs! I had an amazing anti-pasta platter with gluten-free crackers! Then had a grilled romaine salad with goat cheese & shrimp!

Its so great to find a restraunt where people are not only aware of celiac conditions but also cook so incredibly well I am hesitant to ever travel much farther if coming through Arkansas again. It was masterful cooking that was perfect and I could eat freely. I came back the next day as well to get pasta made from quinoa! (Ask about that!)

Just tell the waiters about your allergies or you can also talk directly to the chef! We did! I normally have to make sure they understand, they just smiled and assured me it would be fine, they knew exactly why I was so paranoid! I would start in and they would say, "Oh we know, we have separate pans we cook in." !!!

Anyhow sorry for the long post but us celiacs or others who have food problems need to stick together! If you are anywhere in the arkansas area go here!!!! Who knew the best eating on my trip to the us would be in Jonesboro Arkansas! Here is the website! Open Original Shared Link

Sadly I wish more food places would start picking up on the fact that this is not unusual and start working at some simple menu's to accommodate us! If anyone knows of more high level gluten free restaurants please add links. I go also to NY and sometimes Chicago.

:D Thank you for telling us about that place. I hope one day to find a restarant in little rock.

I have trouble with nausea. It often starts when I’m anxious about something (home repairs, sick dog) but continues long after the home is repaired or the dog is healthy again. When it happens I eat less and lose weight.  My gastroenterologist suggested ginger or peppermint tea. I don’t know if that will work or not because I haven't had the problem since she suggested it.

Hello  I'm not sure what to think . Seems no matter what I do I get sick. I had some yogurt with only 2 grams of sugar and is labeled gluten free ...the strawberry version seemed to really set me off My jaw is burning as well as my stomach and my feet.  Horrible pain..plus acid reflux and nausea... sensitivity to touch pain. ..yikes !! I don't know if it's from the lactose in the yogurt or if I'm getting an ulcer  This condition can make you question yourself quite a bit.  Then if you are not sure the anxiety comes 😞 Does any of these symptoms sound familiar to anyone? The neuropathy is quite intense.  What do you eat or drink after this happens  Open to suggestions  Thank you

Of course my son is on a 100% gluten free diet.  I wish his symptoms were not debilitating as there are right now.  He cannot work, even when a miniscule of cross contamination occurs.  It's not just GI distress, but intense fatigue, brain fog, depression, anxiety, insomnia, etc.  It's literally neurological inflammation.  Not to be taken lightly here.  We have sought out many other possible ways to cope during this window of time (8 months!!!!)  without success.   AN-PEP does not help and seems like studies on this are not well researched.  So, we are trying this out because research shows some promising results.  And, all participants showed no cravings afterwards, no signs of addiction.  The patch is different than the oral route such as smoking, vaping, gum, pouch, etc.

Have you tried AN-PEP enzymes, for example, GlutenX (who is a sponsor here)? A lot of research has shown that it can break down small amounts of gluten in the stomach, before it reaches the intestines. It might be a better approach than risking nicotine addiction, and the questionable research around this. I also hope that he’s trying to be 100% Gluten-Free.

Hi all  I was diagnosed Coeliac a few years ago and follow a gluten free diet. The list of foods that I can eat without a problem grows shorter on a weekly basis. [I also have diabetes and asthma also].  BUT the reason I am posting this is because I seem to struggle with nausea quite a lot, which is really quite debilitating, and I was wondering if others suffer from nausea, even if following a gluten free diet.
