Neck Pressure And Thyroid Problems.

It's been a long time since I checked in on this site on a regular basis. I remember people here having a huge wealth of knowledge as far as what is celiac disease and what diseases are related to it. I've been doing just fine for probably 5 years on the gluten-free diet. Now I'm having thyroid problems. I've been diagnosed with Hashimotos and they are still adjusting my thyroid Meds after a year of this.

I need some help and advice. I have constant pressure on my throat in the thyroid area. It seems like it's harder to breathe now. I've had several biopsies of my thyroid - no cancer. I just had a barium swallow study. No blockage - dr says all is normal. I don't feel good the pressure is exhausting and very worrisome. The Endocrin dr says my thyroid is fine nothings wrong and go see an ENT. I'm on 75 mcg of levathyroxin. I'm still gaining weight, cold, and miserable. Tylenol and ibprofin Meds make no difference. Allergy Meds make no difference.

If it's not my thyroid, what is this problem?? Where should I go next for some help? Any thoughts or suggestions would really help.

Perhaps you need Cytomel as well as levothyroxine. Some people do. Another idea would be to check parathyroids. ( calcium levels and parathyroid levels) to see if there is any problem there. PTH can be tricky to measure so you can have fluctuating levels and therefore need a few tests done to be sure. Open Original Shared Link

My best advice to give you is drop the endocrinologist and find a good alternative medicine physician. I gave up years ago going to these "so called specialists" because they never helped. I have Hashi's thyroid disease, along with a few others from celiac disease, and it was downright frustrating for doctors to not take into account on-going symptoms with regards to your thyroid and going only by lab results. They honestly do not know how to balance a thyroid.

You are having symptoms still so this thyroid replacement is not working well for you. Many people need both T3 and T4 thyroid hormone to feel well again.

I now use Nature-throid and it really has some kick to it! I used Levoxyl for awhile, along with a T3 compounded hormone but the Levoxyl didn't do so well after a while.

A good alternative doctor will test other things as well like your adrenals, which have a role in thyroid function. Can you find a doctor in your area that does alternative medicine? It can be difficult but changing doctors and thinking outside the box was what got me well again. You still have thyroid issues as evidenced by your symptoms so you need to find someone who knows what they are doing.

I looked further into Thiamax Vitamin B1 by objective nutrients and read all the great reviews. I think I will give this a try. I noticed only possible side affect is possibly the first week so body adjusts. Life Extensions carries Benfotiamine with Thiamine and the mega one you mentioned. Not sure if both in one is better or seperate. some reviews state a laxative affect as side affect. SHould I take with my super B complex or just these 2 and multivitamin? I will do further research but I appreciate the wonderful explanation you provided on Thiamine.

There are other Celiac genes. HLA DQ 2 and HLA DQ 8 show up in people from Northern European descent.   People of Mediterranean descent have HLA DQ 7.  People of Asian descent have HLA DQ 9.   There's other Indigenous populations that have other HLA genes that code for Celiac disease.   Are you still having symptoms?   What do you include in your diet?  Are you vegetarian? Are you taking any prescription medication?  Omeprazole?  Metformin?   Do you have anemia?  Thyroid problems? Are you taking any vitamins or herbal supplements?

There are eight essential B vitamins.  They are all water soluble.  Any excess of B vitamins is easily excreted by the kidneys.   Thiamine is Vitamin B 1.  Thiamine is safe and nontoxic even in high doses.  Benfotiamine and TTFD are forms of Thiamine that the body can utilize very easily.   The form of Thiamine in the supplements you mentioned is Thiamine Mononitrate, a form that the body does not absorb well and does not utilize well.  Only about thirty percent of the amount on the label is actually absorbed in the small intestine.  Less than that can actually be used by the body.  Manufacturers add thiamine mononitrate to their products because it's cheap and shelf-stable.  Thiamine and other B vitamins break down when exposed to light and heat and over time.  Thiamine Mononitrate is a form that does not break down over time sitting on a shelf waiting for someone to buy them.  What makes Thiamine Mononitrate shelf stable makes it difficult for the body to turn into a useable form.  In fact, it takes more thiamine to turn it into a useable form.   Gastrointestinal Beriberi is a localized shortage of Thiamine in the gastrointestinal tract.  High carbohydrate meals can result in gastrointestinal symptoms of Gastric Beriberi.  Fiber is a type of carbohydrate.  So, high fiber/carbohydrate snacks could trigger Gastric Beriberi.   Since blood tests for Thiamine and other B vitamins are so inaccurate, the World Health Organization recommends trying Thiamine and looking for health improvement because it's safe and nontoxic.
