Whole Body Inflammation

I just wanted to see if I am on track with my recovery and if anyone else has experienced this.

During the first three weeks of my new diet, I lost inches off every portion of my body through the process of heavy sweating. I had had a sponginess that I always thought was just fat. Now, when I feel my ribcage, I can actually feel my bones and muscles.

Is this pretty normal? I know most with the disease are much thinner than I am, but I was wondering if others have gone through this same process once off gluten.

Thanks.

Sounds to me like you may have been experiencing some fluid retention. That is common for individuals with Celiac.

Glad you're feeling better!

Yep that was the case for me. I went from a size 14 to a 4 within a month and even lost a shoe size. Since my fluid retention was pretty spread out over my whole body it was never really noticed by my doctors. They did notice my bloated belly but just told me to excercise as I was 'out of shape'.

I gained 20 pounds like nothing after my son was born... Lost 5-10 so far, it bounces... I think mine is mostly water weight... Still trying to figure out how to lose it... I know that eating corn makes the scale jump so I believe it makes me retain...

I ballooned out years ago when I first starting having major symptoms. Was heavy for a few years. Lost story short, I got a divorce, a busy job, & I was happy... Lost 55 lbs in about 3 months.

These days exercise is difficult. I keep busy but I have a bad back (caused from that job) so just thinking of jumping on the bike makes me hurt... lol I go to a specialist Tuesday so hopefully it'll get easier... I'm sure it would atleast help me lose the water retention..

Congrats on the weight loss! :)

this was definitely the case for me! my upper thighs were SO sensitive to just a light touch. i lost 1/2 inch off my stomach just from the inflammation. i can actually see muscles definition again in my legs and arms. i never really lost any weight but i sure did see a difference in my body!!

It's been amazing and definitely the case with me, also.

Thanks everyone for your answers.

BTW, we've done other articles on this topic that I wanted to share here (not to condone smoking!):

Hi everyone  This has been a crazy year so far... How many people actually get entire sensory overload from gluten or something similar ?  My jaw is going nuts ..and that nerve is affecting my upper back and so on ...  Bones even hurt.  Brain fog. Etc  I had eggs seemed fine.   Then my aid cooked a chicken stir fry in the microwave because my food order shorted a couple key items .   I was so hungry but I noticed light breading and some ingredients with SOY !!! Why are we suffering with soy ? This triggered a sensitivity to bananas and gluten-free yogurt it seems like it's a cycle that it goes on.  The tiniest amount of something gets me I'm guessing the tiny bit of breading that I took one tiny nibble of ...yikes ..im cringing from it .. Feels like my stomach is going to explode yet still very hungry 😔  How long does this last?! Thank you so much

This is an older article, but may be helpful.

I have had orthodontic work done. The 3M invisalign material was no problem. BUT my retainers are another matter. They seemed okay for a few months. Now, however, they cause a burning sensation on my tongue, gums and insides of my lips. The burning sensation is now spreading to my throat. I notice it when I breathe. This is annoying and interferes with my enjoyment of eating. I am visiting with my provider tomorrow. We'll see where this goes from here.

Exactly which blood tests were done? There are a few different ones and some docs don't do them all. Also, your results and reference ranges for each?
