Does Anyone Get The Gluten Symptoms From Antifungals?

I have been taking different antifungals for candida for quite some time. I have also tried Candex but that didn't seem to be taking care of it. I normally get die off symptoms of worse headaches, body aches and mild depression for a two days and then it gets better. For the last three days, I have also had diarrhea, nervousness, cold sweats and anxiety along with the body aches, moderate headache and depression. Another symptom is frequent urination and urinary pressure. My sleep is never regular but last night was terrible with only about two hours. That is a typical glutening symptom.

These are all my gluten symptoms but I did read that candida die off can cause the same. I have used caprylic acid which wasn't too bad and then switched to oil of oregano and then olive leaf extract. I decided to do the switching because one's body can get use to the antifungals and they no longer work. I used these same products in the past without such problems but stuck to each antifungal for 3-4 weeks before changing. This time I took the capryllic acid for 10 days, switched to oil of oregano for two and started feeling so sick. Not the wisest decision, but I then switched to olive leaf extract.

When I used these antifungals in the past, I didn't get the diarrhea, sweats, anxiety and urinary problems.. Right now I have cut out the antifungals to see if the symptoms go away. Most likely I'll wait until I see my doctor before I try them again. I have a two week wait for my doctor appointment. I know I'll have to go through the die off symptoms again but will most likely start with a very low dose and build up.

I do not cope well with this anxiety so hope it will pass soon. When I have had cc issues in the past, my symptoms usually only lasted 24 hours. This has been going on for three days with the past two being unbearable.

It is possible that the cc is coming from the antifungals. If depends on how sensitive you are. I am very sensitive and am amazed at where I have experienced cc.

Almost all treatments, whether drugs or botanicals, can have side effects. When I took caprylic acid for a bacterial infections, I suffered bloating, cramping pain, gas, and nausea. Those symptoms were similar to my gluten reactions, but not exactly the same. Since I abstained from gluten and my other diagnosed allergens, I realized my symptoms were reactions to caprylic acid. I experienced those same reactions later, when I took caprylic acid for 2 other bacterial infections.

A DNA microbial stool test diagnosed my candida and indicated Nystatin could effectively kill my candida strain. Different strains of candida are sensitive to different drugs or botanicals. When I first began Nystatin, I had nausea and dizziness for about 3 days. Then I had no other side effects during the 2-3? month treatment. My next 3 stool tests showed I was free of candida after that Nystatin treatment. I did not follow any special anticandida diet, but I did abstain from my diagnosed allergens.

i dont have any expert advice for you regarding antifungal treatments, cc, etc...

BUT- is it possible that your body is being put thru too much detoxing?? idk... i have some chinese tinctures that i sometimes take to detox the liver and gall bladder- and they specifically say to only take 3 weeks in a row.. and to always take a 4th week off.

i THINK it's POSSIBLE that the liver can be too stressed if you're detoxing and killing off yeast or parasites in the body.

i know a lot of parasite flushes are only 2 weeks too.

but again, im not an expert on the antifungals, or nystatin, or how long to kill off the yeast.

in the past, (as i can be prone to yeast issues)- the best thing that worked for me was STRICT no sugar diet for months.. even most fruit and all carbs.

I have read so much on treatment and a lot of what I read suggestion to change antifungals without taking a break. Right now I am taking the break! I sure hope that it brings me relief within a few days. I have tried caprylic acid, grapefruit seed extract, oil of oregano and olive leaf extract each for at least 3-4 weeks and did not have this happen before. Just two days of feeling lousy but no tummy issues and if there was anxiety, it was minimal.

I feel like I did before I learned about cross contamination. I sure hope this passes. It scares me that I am going to get stuck in this physical and mental pain rut for a long time.

I put on over 12kg by eating protein with every meal, 3 to 5 times a day. Eggs, Chicken, Tuna, Turkey etc. I stay away from too much red meat as it can be inflammatory. Scott is correct. I've come across a bunch of Coeliac PT's on Tiktok and Instagram. They all say the same thing, the key is getting enough protein and consistency.

It's great to hear that eliminating gluten has helped alleviate symptoms like eye burning, which is a significant and positive change. The first and most important step is to ensure you're consuming enough protein throughout the day to support muscle repair and growth, which can be challenging with a busy schedule. Since you're already physically active at work, adding focused strength training just 2-3 times per week can make a major difference. Bodyweight exercises like squats, push-ups (modified if needed), and lunges, or using resistance bands at home, are excellent, efficient places to start. Remember, consistency with these short sessions and prioritizing post-workout recovery, including good sleep and hydration, are just as crucial as the workouts themselves. It's a smart, gradual process at any age.

Trader Joe's carries a good variety of affordable gluten-free foods like bagels, hamburger buns, pasta, etc. I like Franz Gluten Free bread, which is available at my local Costco. Food For Life and Little Northern Bakehouse (advertisers here) also make excellent gluten-free breads. Costco also sells gluten-free pizzas, crackers, gravy, etc.
